secluded restaurant – a glasshouse dining room extending out from an old farm shed, in earthy tones, think natural materials, with an aesop-y color palette. High ceilings, airy spaces, we were lucky to have a spot in the corner by the window looking out into the vegetation. . Created by a former head chef at Coda, with two hats and 40 seats, Barragunda features farm to table dining, from their on site market gardens & orchards on the 1000-acre estate stretching to the cliffs of Cape Schanck and Bushrangers Bay (golf cart required to explore). . The menu is seasonal vegetable based dishes with by Estate-reared hogget and Black Angus beef, and seafood from the peninsula’s Wild Life Fisheries. . 🍴 We're having the set 4-course menu $145pp, some courses being served shared others not. Not saying black text on krafty brown textured paper is hard to read but... . 🦪 Mussel & baby fennel à La Grecque, sunflower cream 🥩 Barragunda black angus, alliums, green fig, rainbow chard 🫛 Today's leaves, flowers & ferments All kinds of carrot, chamomile 🍧 Grapefruit sorbet, apple & jalapeno whey soda Quince, koji parfait, malted barley, black garlic fudgee . Every dish was a work of art, the ingredients couldn't be fresher, having come from local sources. It was very good, a cool concept, with different views, of landscape from a glasshouse. . 🍸 Love the mocktails options, a few to choose from. We had a fig leaf mocktail which was beautiful, light though, more suited to tea drinkers rather than soda. It took me back to a perfume I have that smells like summer, in Italy. . ⏰️ A long lunch so cancel those afternoon meetings, the waiters were lovely, a new one with each course felt disjointed, but looking back we had time to frolic in the garden, and maybe even spot a kangaroo in mains and dessert. . 🥬 @barragunda 📍 Cape Schanck, Mornington 🚕 Drive only location 💵 $145 set menu + drinks 📆 Open...
Read moreA review would barely describe how truly stunning this new gem on the peninsula is. The one word that comes to mind for me is balance. The venue is balanced with warm, inviting features from the moment you enter, envoking the excitement from the inner self. This is paired with the thought provoking view from the intimate dining area, that showcases a small portion of the produce, and shows the growth of exciting things to come. The staff are well balanced, with attention to detail both from the wait staff, as well as the kitchen staff. The openess shows no where to hide. And there is nothing to hide, what you see is what you get, and it clearly stems from hard work and a dream that has been brave but has paid off. The food is far from just a high end meal on your plate, again everything shows balance. The menu takes you on a journey that you didn't know you needed, and for me, it was one of the only meals I've eaten that has sparked true emotion. It shows what you can do with what you have around you, and it makes me proud, as I am a local, to see what my hometown has to offer. This is not for everyone. Don't waste Barragunda time if you don't want to come for a story, to be inspired, to feel the passion.Come here because you want to escape the beige. It felt like a hideout, like a...
Read moreWhen you think of a two-hatted restaurant, your mind can sometimes envision pomp and circumstance. This is not Barragunda. They have reimagined fine dining with warmth, consideration and more than a nod to Country. Every detail seems intentional, from the crockery to the steak knives.
Every single dish was so fresh, perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented and balanced. You will not walk away hungry! And the bread and butter…
The head chef, Simone, talks with passion and knowledge about the produce and process. She is truly inspiring. All of the staff were so friendly and professional. Learning about their regenerative practices was so interesting and hopefully more businesses will work towards this kind of model.
Barragunda is an experience that I cannot wait to do with more of my friends and family! It was a bit miserable when we went yesterday so I’m looking forward to strolling through the garden another time. Also, the “grandma” in me LOVED the 4pm lunch sitting. They also mentioned that it’s good to recheck the booking system as, although we had a long wait to get in (being so understandably popular!), last minute cancellations do pop up.
It was such a...
