Code 5 Café – A Hidden Gem That Keeps You Coming Back

Code 5 Café has quickly earned its place as one of my all-time favorite local spots. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly blends laid-back comfort with a modern café vibe. The interior is thoughtfully designed, offering both cozy seating for solo coffee runs and spacious tables for group brunches.

Let’s talk about the food — every dish I’ve tried has been nothing short of excellent. The ingredients are consistently fresh, and you can taste the quality in every bite. The menu strikes the perfect balance between comfort and creativity, with classic favorites and unique seasonal offerings that keep things interesting. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the plating is always on point — colorful, clean, and Instagram-worthy.

Now onto the coffee, which is truly next level. Each cup is brewed to perfection: rich, smooth, and full of depth. Whether you’re grabbing a quick espresso or enjoying a silky flat white, the attention to detail is obvious. It’s clear the baristas here take pride in their craft, and it shows.

The service is another standout. The staff are not only professional and efficient, but genuinely warm and friendly. They take the time to remember your name, chat with you like a regular, and make sure every visit feels personal. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it makes a huge difference.

Whether you’re popping in for a takeaway coffee or planning a leisurely weekend brunch, Code 5 Café consistently delivers on all fronts — food, coffee, service, and vibe. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for quality and consistency in a relaxed,...

My husband made a reservation as it’s usually packed during lunch time. When we got there it was so busy we had to grab the waiter to tell them of our reservation. Then a young woman told us to sit outside when we’ve reserved for a table inside..she then said “I saw it marked as outside” and we told her to check it again. Then she cleared out a table and when we sat down, the table wobbled to one side badly. We told her that the table was wobbling and she brought napkins to make it even which didn’t work. Then she goes yup doesn’t work and tried to leave and we told her we can’t put heavy dishes on this table as it’s not safe and she goes “you just have to be careful” we were livid and told her it’s not safe and asked her if we can sit on a different table. Then she responded “you need to then just wait outside” when we made a reservation and there was another table empty for reservation and be mindful that the seats cannot be designated..we told her that we will just sit outside which had an empty table and she goes yea and leaves…we went to sit outside by ourselves with no menus and she came outside and looked at us from afar and left..this young waitress needs to be trained as her mind was just not right..I’ve been to this place quite a lot and this woman was by far rude, not pleasant and careless. For the price we pay for the food, you will not get same level of...

I visited today for brunch, and while the food itself was quite enjoyable and the coffee was great, the overall experience was unfortunately disappointing due to several service and hygiene concerns.

Firstly, we waited over 40 minutes for our meals and an additional 20 minutes for a single takeaway coffee, which felt excessive. During our visit, we witnessed a customer being seated at a table that appeared to have something unclean underneath — it looked green and fluffy, potentially vomit. Shockingly, a staff member attempted to clean it using tissues without gloves, effectively just spreading it around instead of properly sanitising the area.

Our own table wasn’t wiped down before we were seated. While we did ask to move and were thankfully accommodated quickly, the new table also hadn’t been cleaned beforehand.

Throughout the visit, there was no table service or follow-up from staff to check in on how we were doing or if we needed anything. The overall lack of customer service was quite disappointing. Additionally, the waiter serving our section seemed disorganised, repeatedly mixing up orders and unsure of where meals were meant to go.

I understand that hospitality can get busy, but basic attention to cleanliness, customer engagement, and service consistency would make a big difference to the...

What started off as a promising cafe experience quickly deteriorated when the server who seated us came back and advised us to vacate the table even before taking the order. This was despite calling them ahead of time and informing them of our arrival. We were given an alternate table outside which was cozy with other patrons and their dogs. The kicker was their “online ordering system” which displays prices 10% higher than what’s on the cafes menu. (Example hot choccy was $4 on the menu but 4.40 when ordering online) On top of that they also add 2 surcharges - 10% for weekend service plus a card fee which is not avoidable (no option to pay cash). Finally they add 10% GST ON TOP. The owner needs to know that not accepting cash at a business is illegal (even during covid). I raised the discrepancy in prices with the manager who couldn’t do much. He weakly gestured at the guys above him and dismissed any responsibility and then walked away. We couldn’t stomach this attitude any further and left without being able to order mains. All this coupled with cold and lethargic service and in particular the average food makes it hard to recommend. Highly overrated. There are soo many better cafes around that deserve your business.

It was a highlight of the Glen Waverley area and excellent Cafe for locals. I have gone past this cafe many times but finally I decided to give it a go. This is by far the best local Cafe I've been to, given it is in a prime residential area with no other retail/restaurant near by. This gives it a unique vibe, almost a backyard feeling. The food is excellent, absolutely delicious in every way. The mushroom on bread has been the highlight with delicious juicy mushrooms and poached eggs that were cooked just right. The chilli scrambled eggs on toast was also well made and they did not skimp on the serving size. The chilli were somewhat hot but you can easily pick them out if you want to. The matcha soy latte is an excellent choice for those who want a hot, slightly sweet drink. You don't have to load up on sugar just trying it. Overall I consider this my default location now for meeting people locally. Excellent location and food, what more could you want?
