The food, especially the home made dim dims, is quite good.
However, when they've made mistakes in orders, they can be unsympathetic, even combative, when you seek to have them resolved; escalating to the owner resulted in the astonishing comment 'if you don't like it, don't come back, it's a free country'.
The owner didn't care if the other food already made, got cold while the items missed by the counter staff, in the original order, were cooked from scratch - "It's hard for take away food to be hot by the time you get it home". Only indignation resulted when some value replacement (discount) was suggested - it was all 'your problem'.
I would imagine they would state their value offer as `inexpensive food, tasty, good quality, quick and hot, easy, no fuss'. ... they need to add 'until we make a mistake, then we'll make no apology, accept no responsibilty, at all, and hassle you if you think that's unreasonable.'
Business people with decades of experience, typically handle problems that will inevitably arise, calmly, quickly and with kindness, courtesy and professionalism, because mature and humble people know that it is the servant that accepts money.
I hope they learn this at some point, and in doing so, express some appreciation for the many years of support they've received from the community; the two owners have been in the business for decades now, so sadly, unlikely.
Instead, you'll now find me at Captain Kebab's, in Dorset Rd, 2 km away, whose range, quality and service are all exceptional, and they quickly handle mistakes with courteousy, kindness, responsibilty and professionalism, no fuss, no drama, all good. Wonderful ! ... they also have South Melb Market dim sims delicious, and imho, better than the King's

Read moreThis restaurant is truly incredible. My work is not far from here and every day I have to fight the urge to not go in. The happiest days of my life are when I get lunch here. Great prices and food is to die for. This is my favourite restaurant in the world. I'll forever want to get take away at the Dim Sim King, and I don't think there would be any limit as to what I would do to get a $16 large meal deal. I have only happy tears and good memories when I think of this place. Even now as I write this I have the biggest smile on my face. Counting down the days to my next meal. Thank you...
Read moreNot sure why people seem so excited about this place. I gave it a try. I had the medium lunch box which consisted of rice, honey chicken, and Mongolian beef, plus 1 fried Dim Sim They were sold out of sweet n sour pork before 1pm Thursday. I would rate average to just below average food court standard. Food was sloppy and had little flavour. Dim Sim was almost reasonable however I felt entire experience was overpriced for what it was. If you're after the basic food court experience then try it, otherwise give it a miss. Service was fast and friendly. A shame...
