Flakes on Sydney Road — Restaurant in Melbourne

Weird vibe. Set up as though they expect to have folks leap over the counter, with a side barricade of a gate. Woman very abrupt as she took orders, when not busy yelling at the guy in the kitchen. Lots of folks sitting around aimlessly waiting for food, or to be noticed so that they could place an order. TV on with no signal. It took a good 30 mins for my food to appear. Yes, they are open late. Food was nice, particularly the fish and potato cakes, but decidedly not the pineapple fritters. They were frankly inedible and disgusting, and went straight into the bin. I don't plan to return.

UPDATE: After the very hostile response from the shop, not to mention their pathetic efforts at insults and assumptions, here are my suggestions for improving their service and food: Be friendly and welcoming to all customers. A smile and a warm greeting is a good idea, and costs nothing. A friendly attitude would make a world of difference to fix your ugly and forbidding shop layout, given that you probably can't do much to make it more attractive. Be more responsive when customers arrive, and serve them in a timely manner, instead of expecting all comers to wait unnecessarily. Refrain from screaming at eachother in the kitchen. Your customers can hear you. It adds to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Either fix your TV or turn it off altogether. Warn your customers when the wait time is likely to exceed 20 minutes. Throw out food that is clearly off. Remember that you face competition from the excellent fish and chips shop across the road. People can go elsewhere. Perhaps consider that making public insults and assumptions about people being out late is counter-productive, given that a good portion of your customers are clearly out late. Consider the fact that dishing out personal insults to customers makes YOU look bad, not the person leaving a disappointed review. Strive...

The food was EXQUISITE it was so good I came back for more a few hours later. Best fish and chips shop I’ve ever been to, the shop is really relaxing and has a nice vibe to it. I love that they sold many different foods in one place and they all tasted equally as amazing. I drove thirty minutes to try as it was recommended by soo many people and I was craving good fish and chips and ended up ordering more for later too couldn’t resist trying all the options offered. The staff were really nice had a great conversation with a staff member. Busy at times but that just shows the love and popularity of the place. The staff is really what has me coming back this location has a great set of people, not only is the food amazing but the people are so sweet and wonderful it is also very busy at this location and the employees are just so darn nice and great! Edit: I appreciate the response from the owner. I don't want you to refund twice and I've already taken it up with the app, but thanks for the offer. The app has no way to contact the restaurant, I did report the missing items immediately.

Ordered the flake pack earlier tonight, received just the flake.

-Pack is advertised as 1 flake,1 dim sim, 1 potato cake, chips, tartare and lemon. They did at least put the lemon in.

-Mind you, this is through a delivery service not direct to the restaurant, but the delivery service only refunded me half the cost of the pack.

-I paid for +1 dim sim which I did receive, here's the mostly empty box that got delivered to my house. Also ordered a Diet Coke and got sent a Coke Zero, they're not the same. I didn't try to get it refunded, seeing as I did actually get a (wrong) drink at least.
