Why are country bakeries so much better than their city counterparts? I reckon it’s the fresh ingredients and loving care that is missing from the big, busy city. This is obvious from the other reviews of this bakery. The current Melbourne suburban sprawl is threatening the “country” status of Gladysdale, but I reckon it’ll be safe for a few more years. The food and service here is fantastic. The ambience is relaxed and breezy, and the choice is extensive. It’s hard to fault. However, in the interests of constructive feedback, I must say that my beef pie, while nice and chunky, could have used a touch more gravy. My friends lamb and mint pie however, was perfect. He wouldn’t give me any. The sausage rolls were great but the filling just a tad bland. While not everyone likes a more exotic sausage roll, I reckon there’s room on their menu for some which are spicy, or containing more onion, carrot or garlic. Maybe a dash of Worcestershire sauce? On the other hand, my Reuben toastie brought me straight back to New York. While not as majestically tall of those in Times Square, it had just enough pastrami, sauerkraut and gooey cheese to hit the spot. Yum! The old school, but much larger, chocolate crackles will bring you right back to your childhood. Be warned, it's hard to spot the place as its set back from the road. There is not much sign of it and being green ot blends into the background! Google maps is your friend. So, do yourself a flavour favour, and drive down the picturesque Warburton highway to this bakery. Have something to eat...and then hit...

THE FOOD. The meals we had were delicious but my friends hamburger bun base was split making impossible to eat without it falling apart.
I had the Pumpkin, feta, avocado, beetroot with two poached eggs on toast which was delicious and couldn't be faulted, the poached eggs were perfect!
THE COFFEE! Now to the most important part of any review and the reason why this review isn't 5 stars.
When you're asked what size coffee you want and you reply with "the largest size have mug you have!" you kind of expect a decent sized country town mug that you can wrap both your hands around but this sadly arrived in nothing more than a standard coffee cup.
Don't get me wrong the coffee was great albeit it not overly hot and almost finished by the time our food arrived but it was still very good coffee.
The delicious split burger bun base can be forgiven but sadly not the size of the coffee "cup".
Will we return? You bet, it's a great place with wonderful food and...
Read moreWow!!! What a hidden gem! We stayed out at Langbrook farm for a couple nights to get away from the city and this place was only 5 minutes away from there so hubby and I came for breaky not once but twice. Coffee is really good. We ordered the home made baked beans breaky (insanely good) and the pumpkin, avo, feta & egg on toast (sweetest surprise) and were so impressed that we came back with our daughters the next morning and got the same thing, which is so unlike us. The girls got the kids pancakes and the kids bacon eggs and everything was so generously portioned and delicious. They also had a huge range of sweet treats which looked so delicious. Hubby had an eclair and loved it. Highly recommend this place, good food and good vibe! Also the pictures of all the dogs that have visited all over the walls are such...
