Laura nestled just a short drive from the stunning Mornington Peninsula and located in the pt Leo estate, we knew we were about to embark on a truly exceptional dining experience. The ambiance was refined yet inviting â a perfect blend of understated elegance and cozy charm, setting the tone for a memorable lunch.
The evening unfolded with a meticulously curated 13-course tasting menu that showcased the very best of local ingredients and culinary artistry. Each dish was a celebration of flavors, textures, and seasonal produce, expertly crafted by the talented chef and their dedicated team.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the evening was the lobster flambĂ© served right at our table. Watching the chef flambĂ© the lobster with precision and flair was an experience in itself â a theatrical display of skill and confidence. The lobster was perfectly cooked, tender and succulent, with a rich, buttery flavor that was elevated by the flambĂ© process. The chef was not only knowledgeable but also passionate, taking the time to explain the inspiration behind the dish and the nuances of the preparation. It was a true demonstration of culinary mastery, and the communal excitement around the table made it even more special.
Among the many highlights, the tacos stood out as a delightful surprise. They were crafted with finesse, balancing bold flavors and fresh ingredients. The tortillas were soft yet sturdy, holding fillings that were both inventive and comforting. Each bite was a testament to the chefâs ability to elevate simple dishes into gourmet delights.
The evening's finale was the carrot dessert, which was nothing short of extraordinary. It was a beautifully presented dish that showcased the versatility of this humble root vegetable. The dessert was perfectly balanced â perhaps a carrot mousse or a carrot-infused panna cotta, complemented by subtle spices or a citrus tang. It was a thoughtful and sophisticated ending to the meal, leaving us with a lingering sweetness and appreciation for the chefâs kiss.
What truly set this experience apart was the evident dedication to sustainability and local sourcing. The menu proudly featured ingredients that were homegrown or locally harvested, emphasizing the restaurantâs commitment to supporting local farmers and promoting seasonal eating. This approach not only enhanced the freshness and flavor of each dish but also fostered a deeper connection between the diner and the land.
The service was impeccable â attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable without overshadowing the culinary experience. The staff demonstrated genuine passion for the food, eager to share insights and recommendations that enriched our understanding and appreciation of each course.
The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between elegance and comfort, making us feel special yet relaxed. Soft lighting, tasteful decor, and a well-curated wine list complemented the meal beautifully.
Laura delivers an immersive gastronomic adventure that celebrates local produce, culinary craftsmanship, and the joy of shared experiences. From the theatrical lobster flambé to the inventive tacos and the exquisite carrot dessert, every element was thoughtfully executed with passion and precision.

Read moreIt was a lovely afternoon overall, but there were some misses. The service was wonderful - professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The view was panoramic and simply fabulous, all the way across the sculpture park, a field of cattle, the wide expanse of Westernport Bay to Phillip Island. The food, however, we were less than delighted by. The overall quantity was good, the pace of delivery also, but I had expected better. A âsea urchin mousseâ of carnaroli rice cooked in broth was⊠a bit odd. Rice undercooked to my taste (more than al dente) and somewhat chewy. The â3 parts of codâ were all lacking in flavour, though the sauce was delicious. Fortunately. There were two standouts - the flambĂ©ed lobster, and a dessert of locally made chocolate with blackberries. Both superb. There were also some delightful little additions, amuse bouches, and an exquisite little macaron each. I like set menus, as you get to try different things, someone else has made all the decisions and usually I feel very well fed. Overall, at this price, I am sorry to say that I felt somewhat let down by the menu and the food. I have some idea of how much effort and time is out into such a menu, which is why I regret having to criticise. I have sampled various places around the peninsula, including the higher priced ones, and given the competitorsâ offerings and the reviews I had read, I had expected more of Laura. I am not, at this point, even...
