I want to love this place because it’s local but I don’t personally feel like the value for money or taste is there food wise. This is my second time in. The coffee I enjoy and I drink a lot of coffee from a lot of different places so if I don’t return for food that will be the saving grace. I ordered $16 pancakes. I suppose i expected to be presented with something in the stylings of Seddon deadly sins. But I was surprised to be presented with two palm sized, half centimeter thick items more reminiscent of pikelets. The presentation of the dish was fantastic and beautiful, very well styled (which is why I imagine it took so long to come out and was barely warm) but the dish only flat lined from there. The pancakes where quite doughy and dense, and had no real taste to them. I’m not sure I enjoyed the tart compote and sour cream with nothing sweet to cut through it. Not even the single strawberry or the petite banana pieces helped. I just wanted to taste something exciting but I left unhappy and hungry. The complete lack of satisfaction was really disappointing. So was walking home to make myself food after my ‘treat yo self’ moment didn’t pan out. It’s a new cafe and there are bound to be things that will be tweaked but I’m not sure I’m willing to risk it. At least not for a while. The place it’s self is very cute and the owners and staff are lovely and certainly battling the balance of entertaining supportive friends and first time customers. As well as working out the best way to meet customers. Speed may be an issue for them as I heard a few other patrons amongst themselves say ‘I wonder where our food is’ which is something I...
Read moreI had a bad brush with the owner of this business today. I have a disability and use a walker. I had just gotten out of hospital after getting my fortnightly infusion for my illness. Feeling fatigued and week I asked my daughter to stop by to get some hams to take home and get coffees at a deli a few doors down from this cafe. At the same time getting a pastry with my daughter to eat, but the deli's outside tables where being packed up as it was closing time. So we moved on to the EMPTY tables outside of Sadie Black Cafe to finish our food and coffee as it was raining and the benches along the foot path that where not undercover where wet. Thats when the owner of this cafe stormed up to my daughter and I very rudely asked us to get off his chairs because we had not bought the food from his cafe and used the excuse that they where packing up, which by the way had not happened for an extra 15 minutes. The arrangance of this Individual and the manner which this matter was approached is what disgusted me and how sad that empathy and kindness is so far removed from this society by many. It seems that if monies not involved, theres no compassion. I will never eat in this place out...
