The Stables at Stones — Restaurant in Melbourne

This place, located between the vineyards of Punt Road and St. Huberts (one of the oldest wineries (offspring of the oldest) in the Yarra Valley), is in any way stunning. I was fortunate enough to celebrate my wedding in this beautiful little chapel opposite the Stables and have Apéro and Dinner in the Stables afterwards. And multiple times after that. And whenever I get inside the building with these old, bare brick-stone walls and these beautiful heavy dark wooden tables with the incredible tasty setup on top I'm astonished. This then is topped by the service of the staff, the wines on the list and finally by the kitchen. A rustic venue that keeps it simple. The flavours were complex, yet the ingredients simple and locally sourced. We chose the 3 course Summer Lunch Menu. We had been there before a while ago for dinner and knew we were getting our money’s worth when we chose the menu. The quantities were just right! Not minimal wanting more and not too much that we had to skip desert. The staff were friendly, professional, courteous and wasn’t rushed. They knew the menu items in detail. They took time to explain the various dishes, kept the glasses full and remembered all our drink order to refills.

Choosing Stones for a special occasion will definitely not disappoint!

We held our wedding day at the stables for an elegant and intimate affair, we were super thankful to the whole dining team for their professionalism at the chapel and in the stable. I would 100% do it all over again the only this that let them down however, if you are booking out accomodation as well, like we did be sure you get all the inclusions. We didn’t have a great after reception experience with the farmhouse / brewhouse with a clearly grumpy overnight manager whom really didn’t want to be there and the drinks that were meant to be available were not and we specifically booked as we did due to sensitivity / allergy to wine really ended the night on...
