The Warburton Hotel, Wesburn - Bar & Bistro (The West) — Restaurant in Melbourne

Came here for the first time after a hiking in the area. Hoped to grab lunch and cool off after a warm day. I'm theorizing that this place is more happening during dinnertime as when we arrived, there was practically no one in the dining area, and the staff seemed perplexed and a little off put by our arrival.

The service and atmosphere were poor and confusing. No one brought us menus or explained how to order. We had to keep getting up to get menus, utensils (of which there were no clean ones), get water, and figure out other beverages. I'm fine with self service, but the bar staff seemed particularly annoyed by both me and my partner when we asked questions about how to order, if we can have water, if there was a drink menu, etc.

There is no soap in the women's bathroom in the bar area, only in the dining room toilet. That doesn't seem so sanitary to me. So I had to visit two different bathrooms just to clean my hands.

As a vegetarian, the menu is seriously lacking - with only two main options as I recall, and then sides. The only saving grace of this pub is that the food we did have was surprisingly delicious (hot chips with mushroom gravy and onion rings with ranch). The mushroom gravy and the ranch dressing were winners and therefore deserving of 5 stars. But overall, not a pleasant experience for...

The scotch fillet steaks were completely over cooked. We asked for a medium-rare and a medium and they were both beyond well-done. There was barely any chips with the kids chicken nuggets combo or the steak.

The old bird at the bar looked like she had seen better days - no smile at all, just a grumpy old b!tch face. I pointed at the juices in the fridge and asked “are these juices the only options for the kids drink voucher”. She replied “no”. I asked “what are the options”? She replied “soft drinks”. I asked “which soft drinks”? She replied “raspberry, lemon, coke….” Jesus Christ woman! Just tell me all the bloody options from the beginning!

The young lady taking orders at the bistro was nice, and so were the people that brought our food.

The atmosphere was nice, but the old lady at the bar and the terrible...

The only reason I have given 2 stars is the food was good. Unfortunately we waited for 1 hour 20 minutes for the food to arrive. We had to remind the staff we had ordered garlic bread which they only brought 2 out of the 3 plates that we ordered. One person on our table requires gluten free (which the menu had several options) but we were told after an hour from ordering that they were out of stock of gluten free items so my friend could only have a burger (without the bun) and mashed potato.(he was offered a free drink for the inconvenience). The staff gave us no apology for the delay and really didn't seem to care. We were not the only unhappy table - all other tables were just as unhappy and...
