Well this was our second time at the Mallee Fowl and they are consistent. Arrived at 7pm, table of 18 people and ordered by 7:15, great friendly service by our waiter. Then we waited..... and waited... 8pm....... nothing.... 8:30 still nothing, not a word that they were on the way. Kids were becoming very grumpy, called our guy over to ask how much longer it would be. He checked and said they had another 2 tables to do before ours, so we asked for some bread or something for the kids. We heard him ask the manager and saw her say nope and shake her head. So I approached her, reminding her that we have yet to pay and will happily walk out, it was now nearly 2 hours after ordering. She gave in and brought 2 bowls of bread for the 8 children. 15 mins later our food began to arrive, over 2 hours after we ordered. I would have expected them to be far more apologetic than we experienced, not free booze or food but certainly a more positive attitude.

They were clearly busy, with a large event being held outside and as many of us are ex hospitality we get the pressure this puts on the kitchen. We also then expect that they should have put on additional staff and resources this better.

We will not be returning to the Mallee Fowl and recommend that if you are considering this venue you check if they also have large bookings on the night you intend as they are clearly not able to manage customer...

Came here for my mums 50th birthday. I booked for Saturday night. I came the day prior (friday night) to drop off helium filled balloons, candles and table decorations to be set up for the next day. When we arrived none of the stuff i brought by was set up. I asked about it and was told. Ow, we used all of that stuff on a party last night. Sorry its all gone. That was it. They even went as far as to blame me for not telling them who it was for. I specified multiple times. Over the phone and in person who they were for and the name they were booked under and for what day they were for. The food wasnt bad. Nothing amazing. Certainly not worth the inflated prices. Steaks ordered weren't cooked as requested. I also booked for 11 and was given a table for 10 and when i said something they squashed another chair onto our already tiny table. So i wasted money and time to make my mums night special and it was all for nothing. Not even birthday candles on her cake. My husband managed to get $40 out of them for the decorations. They cost over double that. Wouldn't waste my money returning to the restaurant. Far less than...

This place is the whole package, checking out all the fun little jokes and animals will keep you or the kids entertained for quite a while even before you step foot in the restaurant. When you do actually finally get into the restaurant there is alot to take in, more jokes and all soughts of stuff hanging off the ceilings and walls, this place is as aussie as they come. The owner frank is a funny guy interacting with customers and just providing a good old fashioned service that unfortunately you don't see much these days. Prices are not too bad, about on par with every where else but the quality of the food certainly is not, it is so hard to find a really good steak in adelaide, ive had to travel 250kms out to find pretty much the perfect steak. So juicy and tender and cooked to absolute perfection with just a bit of pink on the inside, and when you cut into it no blood comes out as happens with alot of other restaurants. There is a kids menu as well and the barbecue in the middle of the restaurant was pretty cool too watching the chef cook the steak right in...

Friday night found us at the Mallee Fowl restaurant, on the Sturt highway between Berri and Renmark . A very unique place to visit and dine. The dining room is large with lots of space for couples and groups. Walls are adorned with memorabilia and curiosity's to keep you entertained, they also run off their own power source which makes them self sufficient, outside they have a range of animals from chooks, ducks, geese, lyrebirds and emus not to mention alpacas . The service was outstanding we had a large group and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, a credit to the restaurant. My entree of spring rolls were crunchy and filling , My main course of Scotch fillet steak with chips onion rings and salad with mushroom sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, Dessert was available but after that meal I couldn't fit anymore in, others at the table had sticky date pudding and cheese cake and they did say that it was on point . The Mallee Fowl restaurant was the highlight of my trip to the Riverland I'll be sure to call in again

A great rustic Australian pub with table service if dining inside. Space is tight but this venue is always packed because there's always a reliably good feed & the individual charm & decor is quite the experience. It has lost a bit of magic since they removed the in restaurant grill but you won't moss it if you've never been there before. I highly recommend the reef & beef with pepper sauce (which is more like creamy garlic sauce with a crack of pepper in it) & the passionfruit mojitos are to die for. Out the back is a yard full of animals to check out with a few native ones in the mix. The peacocks go on full display & call out as the sun sets which adds to the bush atmosphere. A large private function area is also out the back with fireplace for those cold winter nights & stage if you want to arrange entertainment for your event. Parking amongst the mallee scrub is confusing, I'd suggest they do something to rectify this but overall a great experience.
