Honestly, overpriced & over hyped. Today I ordered a "Pulled Pork" roll. As anyone would expect, you'd receive a large roll with pork in & maybe a side with a salad or chips... but that was nowhere near the case. What I was presented with were these odd, mini taco shaped buns with a tiny amount of pork inside each one. There were 3 of these mini bun" things held together by a skewer, topped with a sweet chilli sauce, mayo & sprouts. There was no sides. This "creation" as the chef told me when I questioned if it was the correct order, cost me $23.00. $23.00 for what was probably $2.50 worth of pork inside each piece of bread. The bread was white, looked like dough & very chewy. When I saw other's orders they had huge burgers with sides of chips or salad, or big baskets of nuggets & chips etc. I honestly felt absolutely ripped off. I expected a large roll or burger bun with pork & gravy / sauce, not this concoction. Don't get me wrong, it tasted nice (I was not impressed by the bread), but was nowhere what I expected & disappointed it didn't come with sides. Like, if a meal doesn't come with a side then the counter staff should probably ask if you want a side of chips or salad with the meal. Instead the girl at the counter didn't say anything. She was however quite rude when I had asked if they could make a ham & cheese toastie & nodded, that they were over in the fridge & we needed to go get it & bring it to the counter. I also ordered a latte. It was dreadful. Worst coffee I have ever had. We drove 70km just to come and enjoy lunch, wasn't worth it. All up for 2 meals, drinks & cake / slices it cost me over $60. Not worth it. Great place to stop during travels so everyone can stretch their legs, pet friendly, loads of seating areas & grassed areas & of course a great big playground for the kids. I think the servings & pricing of the food needs re-evaluating. Just give me a proper pork roll when asked! Not...
Read moreWe attended The Crooked Carrot today with a large table for a family catch-up and were very disappointed with the whole experience. Things were going well until a man came over and started to retract the outdoor blinds directly behind our table. We had a newborn and a baby with us, and he was using a lot of profanities and very colorful language as he struggled to get the blind up. This was particularly inappropriate since it is considered a family friendly cafe. It was very frustrating because as soon as the blind came up, all the wind and sun beamed straight onto our babies’ faces without warning. We asked if the blind could stay down while we were sitting there, but we were quickly informed that “he was being charged out by the minute and was told that he had to get it done.” Meanwhile, the blind next to us for the other table remained closed.
We ordered some food, and I was quite excited to see that there were plenty of dairy-free options, as this is a dietary requirement of mine and it is hard to find places that cater to it. I ordered the dairy-free Caesar salad, and to my surprise, it was just cos lettuce, croutons, bacon pieces, and two anchovies on top for $22.75. I was not aware that it would come without dressing or an egg. I can understand not including the Parmesan since that is dairy, but I assumed there would be an additional dairy-free Caesar dressing for the salad. I was very disappointed to find that the dairy-free option, although removing three components of the salad, remained the same price as the regular Caesar salad.
This was our first time visiting The Crooked Carrot, and unfortunately, it will also...
Read more03/23: Reluctant to come with small kids: I really do like this cafe. we stopped by on the way back to Perth. I had and iced latte and brucshardo. It was very good as usual. I did try to persuade our group to stop somewhere else though.
The playground is amazing, and huge. Because of the size of the playground and the many obstacles it's difficult to keep track of the little ones without following them around. Because of this the kids have a great time but I do not. This of course won't be a problem in a few years when my kids are a little older. There are a number of rusty old farm vehicles in the playground they add character and are interesting but the kids want to climb all over them.
Also there's a side gate to the left of the main entry. If you take your eyes off your little ones they could find themselves on the busy 110km road out the front. I would feel better if they installed child safety gates at the exits to prevent kids from inadvertently escaping to the road.
If your kids are older and responsible enough for you to leave them to their own devices then you'll have a great time and they will have a blast.
2019: I stopped here for the first time on my way south this week and will probably make it a habit from now on. The coffee and food here is very good. My latte had a smooth coffee flavour that was reasonably strong and not...
