(Restaurant review)
I had frequented the cafe at Angel Sussurri when I very first moved to the central coast some years ago. I vaguely remember seeing an advertisement and photograph in the local coast booklet and thought to myself ā I need to go thereā , Which I did. I absolutely loved the feel of the place, a quiet tranquil little garden sanctuary with birds chirping and the most amazing coffee Iād ever had. ( yes the 45 minute drive was worth it ) After some time and several visits later the coffee changed dramatically and went to the worst coffee ( and food ) Iād ever had and that was when I stopped going.
But .. Recently I decided to revisit / visit the restaurant as I had never been, A beautifully quaint little restaurant with an elegant old fashioned feel was a comfortable setting for an enjoyable dinner.
(For those who donāt know, or havenāt been, there is an outside Cafe, a separate Restaurant, Manor house/ accommodation, a gift shop, all at the same premises)
The service was genuine, kind and humble with non professionally trained staff. Most of the food was delicious and well presented.
The squid was cooked perfectly, overall excellent ( but could have used a slight touch more Sichuan in the coating ) as it was slightly lacking that extra punch of flavour, the nam jim dipping sauce was nice but didnāt add anything to the dish, a different dipping sauce would of made the excellent squid even better.
The crepe was absolutely delicious, the accompanying salad was also excellent but the rice and the presentation overall was a little rough and messy.
The salmon wasnāt too bad, somewhat overcooked and way too much marmalade made it sickly sweet and also very bitter, the potato a little sloppy but the accompanying braised fennel was the absolute star of the show, and Iād go as far as to say it was by far the best fennel Iād ever eaten. It was cooked perfectly and it disintegrated into a sweet and savoury mix of luscious creaminess in the mouth.
The desserts were all well presented but hit and miss. The tiramisu was thick and rich in texture and presented well but ( as some like to make it , I am not one of them ) purposely made with zero sweetness / zero sugar, and way too bitter for my liking. I did not taste any rum flavourings as was mentioned in the description, the whole thing was very bitter and the complete lack of any sweetness was ( excuse the pun ) bitterly disappointing and I didnāt continue eating it and for an almost $20 dessert was unfortunately a bad end to a fairly good meal. The sticky date, the cake itself was almost perfect, hand made ( a tad too sweet ) but still probably the one of the best ever, the vanilla ice cream again almost perfect but the sauce was on the extreme side of sweet and almost a hard chewy toffee ( Cobber ) consistency which was more than difficult to eat and as the toffee sauce cooled it became harder and harder and then absolutely impossible to eat, which let the whole dish down, another dessert left unfinished.
Iām starting to sound like the fairytale now.. mine was too sweet mine was not sweet enough .. hehehe .. but unfortunately none were just right, which was my point.
Overall though the restaurant had a nice ambiance, quality ingredients were used, it was an enjoyable experience with a few faults and issues but they could be resolved with little effort.
Would I recommend ..yes Would I return.. yes
Is it worth the drive out there .. yes
Is the road out there great .. definitely not so take care of pot holes, twisting blind bends and running wild animals⦠( no seriously !! Iām Not kidding )
Suitable for an intimate dinner for 2 to small groups. Their lovely dining room setting would make an ideal location for a very small wedding...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been high up in the clouds since our wedding on 31st August 2024, hence why Iām only getting to this review now!
My now husband and I discovered this quirky, unique and charming little gem just over 7 years ago. We went for a drive and were instantly drawn to it. We were not disappointed with what we found. Absolutely delicious food, āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø service without even trying, and so many cool things to see and look at.
Over our many frequent visits to Angel Sussuri, we discover something new in the garden each time, or a new addition to an ornament around the grounds. Itās so cool. It really is.
When the time came to plan our wedding, who better to go to than the team at Angel Sussuri! We had become quite friendly with Aurora (manager) as well as the rest of the team. They make you feel like family!
Once we let Aurora know that we wanted to get married at The Rustic Nest (also owned by Angel Sussuri) and have our reception at Angel Sussuri, the wheels were set in motion.
Aurora was so professional, but was also easy going, whilst ensuring full attention to detail. We changed, added and contacted her multiple times and we were always met with such patience and kindness - nothing was ever a trouble.
As our wedding date was approaching, I had full confidence that Aurora and her team had everything under control. They definitely didnāt disappoint.
In the day of our wedding, and after our flowers were delivered to us (courtesy of Aurora and her Mum - Deb) I received a lovely message from Aurora wishing me a very happy wedding day.
When my car arrived with my mother in law, Aurora was there waiting, ready to guide us all through what we needed to do and when.
Everything was perfect - the ceremony, the reception, all of the decorations, the mood, the ambience, the delicious fully vegan menu, and the very attentive staff on the day / night.
My husband and I honestly couldnāt have asked for a better day. Aurora helped our dream wedding come to life and Iām now proud to call Aurora and her family, now our family.
Honestly, if you havenāt checked out Angel Sussuri or stayed at The Rustic Nest, do yourself a favour and get onto it. We are so lucky to have this absolutely special place right here on the coast!
Also, as an extra special note, we stayed at The Rustic Nest, and we didnāt want to leave. Itās like something from a movie. Itās charming, beautiful, historic and perfect. There is ample room for a big family or group of friends to stay there. There is a beautiful fireplace and the house has been styled so beautifully. I honestly couldnāt fault anything. The gardens are so stunning and plenty of spots outside to sit, relax and read a book in complete peace and tranquility!
Iāve also attached some pics to show off the stunning beauty of Angel Sussuri and The Rustic Nest!
Enjoy!
Thank you to Aurora, Deb, Mat, Elizabeth, Terry and the whole team at Angel Sussuri. Thank you for always making...

I was lucky enough to win the most amazing prize over Christmas - a beautiful 3 course dinner and 1 nights accommodation at Angel Sussurri in Yarramalong and it was magical āØ
I took my friend Julia with me for a girls night and from the second we arrived, Aurora was so lovely and welcoming we felt right at home. š
She showed us up to our room, a gorgeous little boutique hotel room with blue velvet cushions, chandeliers, antique furniture and lovely organic soaps and shampoos. The beds were super comfortable with plush fluffy towels in the bathrooms.
Our dinner had been booked for 530pm and we had over an hour to kill, so we wandered down to explore the deli, cafe, gift shop and rows of books along the verandahs.
I had a lovely pineapple iced tea as we watched the cutest little bluebird hop around.
We then made our way into the restaurant for dinner, which was set under a beautiful awning of fairy lights surrounded by lush gardens..
Accompanied by the first of 2 bottles of Pinot Grigio, we shared the Antipasto Platter and Tempura Prawn Bao buns, which were beautifully presented as well as delicious.
Mains were the Sri Lankan Beef Curry and the Pasta of the Day - a creamy garlic, chicken & mushroom fettuccini- yum!
Dessert we shared the most decadent chocolate brownie alongside the raspberry & lemon pavlova š« š
We then took our second bottle of wine and moved into the guest lounge where we relaxed in the deep velvet couches. The staff were so incredibly lovely and kept popping in to check we were ok or needed anything.
This morning we had the most amazing breakfast with perfect coffee sitting under the vines. I had the āfarm hot potā which was basically the most epic breakfast potato bake with Turkish toast, bacon and a poached egg on top (perfect hangover food) Julia had the vegan pancakes with fresh fruit, maple syrup and ice cream.
Living locally, I have been to the cafe at Angel Sussuri many times and raved about it, but had never tried the restaurant or thought to stay there.
It has always been a lovely Sunday drive and lunch thing and I had never been for dinner.
Iāve been missing out! The food, wine, ambiance and service were all outstanding, yes it was all free as it was a very generous prize, but I would have been just as happy had I paid.
Definitely try this little gem if you are looking for something different as a romatic night away or a girls night, itās absolutely lovely.
Thank you so much for having us Aurora & family xx ā at...
