ROUS ROAD BERNIES BAKERY RIPPED ME OFF. Last week I ordered a $48 Red Velvet Birthday Cake from Bernies Bakery on Rous Rd. I've been a customer of Bernies for over 25 years. They have always provided me with outstanding birthday cakes and up until now, I have always been very pleased. However, last week, they refused to take my order in store and insisted the only way I could order was online. I did this. I picked up the cake and it looked beautiful as usual. But when it was presented to my friend and cut, it was not the cake I ordered. It was one of their $18 mud cakes with a charge of $30 to write Happy Birthday to my friend written on it. I contacted Bernies the next day via their website. I did not receive a reply. I contacted them via their website again later in the week. Still no reply. I contacted them via their faceboook page and they did reply. But refused to deal with the situation. They have since stopped speaking to me via facebook and are ignoring my requests for a refund. So disappointed. For the second time in 3 years- we ordered a cake & when we arrived to pick it up on the Saturday afternoon of the Engagement Party: the cake hadn't been made. We ordered online; had confirmation email & had paid in full. 3 years ago same thing happened for my daughter's 21st- arrived to pick up cake- no cake. Received money back & Bakery had a 20cm round, crappy orange sponge cake with Happy Birthday written on it: so I had to scrape the wording off & add sprinkles 😡🤬 Had paid for full slab caramel mud cake. Lucky Woolies had mini cupcakes!!!! Hopeless service with cakes- very unfortunate because the cakes taste amazing: if they actually bake your order!!! Apparently the same Saturday, there were 3 separate celebration cakes that had been ordered- & none had been made!!! 😳 Sad that I won't be going here again...but not as sad as the night of my Daughter's Engagement Party: when she didn't have the Celebration cake she had ordered. Very disappointed with this service. Received a phone call about being out of strawberries when there is a fruit shop just up the road. At the time of the phonecall they did not mention anything about the image. When picking it up they opened up the box and they had literally placed an edible photo on top of the cake. They told me their printer was playing up. Never once did they call me to warn me about what I was walking into. The image was meant to cover the whole top of the cake. The attitude of the young woman serving me was you can either take it or leave it. They never once offered to bling the cake up for me which if I had received a phone call I would have requested a bling up. Not impressed at all with how this cake looks or the customer service that I received. I found them to be quiet rude in their approach. Do not recommend their image cakes at all.
