Albion Park is a fantastic township at the gateway to the Illawarra’s hinterland. There is a real village feel to the town and the cafe scene is holding its own against the big city players.

Blue Jay Cafe is a great example of village hospitality without compromising on food or coffee quality. The location is off the main drag and tucked at the end of a row of local shops. There is seating available inside but if the weather is fine then don’t miss out on the amazing views of the Illawarra escarpment from the outdoor seating.

Service is friendly and prompt and after having a look at the varied menu we headed up to the counter and ordered coffees and some Brekky fare.

The coffee is hot and well executed and the little touch of a chocolate freckle is very sweet.

Food is reasonably priced and oh boy oh boy the serving sizes are big enough to satisfy the most demanding appetite.

The eggs Benny was served with a generous portion of smoked salmon and not one, but two poached eggs. Lashings of hollandaise sauce, sourdough bread and fresh spinach make this dish rich and delicious.

The egg and bacon roll is stuffed with hammy goodness and and eggy wonder and cheesy gooeyness. Top it off with some homemade tomato relish and you will be relishing every bite!!

The biscoff pancakes are only for the most dedicated sweet tooth. The double stack of house made fluffy cake is topped with banana, strawberry, ice cream, pink floss and Blue Jays own biscoff sauce. A double insulin shot is in order if you manage to finish this decadent dish so approach with sweet caution.

Don’t miss out, when in the park head for the Blue Jay!! You...

My friend had recommend the pancakes to me as she had tried them when they were biscoff flavoured and thought they were incredible. Her sales pitch was great and set my expectations very high, and the pancakes (although they had changed to strawberry from biscoff) still managed to exceed all expectations. I’m a pancake lover, a connoisseur even, and I have to say these may be some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had the privilege to consume. In taste and aesthetic the pancakes were outstanding!

I also had a Nutella hot chocolate which was delightful and not overly sweet. My partner had a coffee and breakfast sandwich which he thoroughly enjoyed. I’m sure all other food at the table was similarly enjoyed but I was too busy being obsessed with my delicious pancakes to...

I really enjoyed visiting Blue Jay. We sat outside at tables in a well manicured lawn area with a very pleasant aspect of Jamberoo and the valley. The burgers were tasty and very good value for money. The accompanying chips were hot crisp and perfectly done. The Berry smoothie I had was delicious. If you are passing through Jamberoo is well worth the small diversion off the Main street for a coffee and meal. Customer service was very relaxed, pleasant and timely. Great for a small family lunch break....

Lunch at Blue Jay Cafe with the in laws. We ordered the Steak Sandwich, Pulled Pork Flat Bread, Fried Chicken Burger, a Beetroot salad and a Schitzel Roll. They were all good and portions are huge. I must say the Fried Chicken Burger is the best in Wollongong! Perfectly crunchy yet juicy and well seasoned. Coffees were great too. The cafe also have boxed shortbread, choc chunk cookies, minced pies for sale as well. Place is well appointed, comfortable chairs, lovely staff. Highly recommended.
