My party of 11 arrived to a table set up nicely on the lawn with a lovely backdrop of the vines. The weather was chilly & very windy
We were brought our first wine tasting and my party were bearing the brunt of the wind & cold so I asked the waitress if we could please move to a table inside, she said sheâd go check & came back & explained unfortunately there was no space inside due to other bookings Next tasting - a huge gust of wind that knocked glasses of red wine all over the table & all over two my party
I pleaded with the waitress to move to a table out of wind (at this point the were two large tables free on the patio sheltered from the wind yet to be occupied) sorry no can do. I pointed out that our table cloth was wet through & that my friend had a red wine soaked table cloth sitting on her lap. She came back with a couple of paper towels which really couldnât do anything. I asked for the table cloth to be changed, she kindly obliged to do & she asked if I wanted to speak with the manager to which I said yes
In the mean time while eating the bread another huge gust of wind appeared and knocked over a glass of red wine onto my friends yellow suede jacket. Our wine tour guide had also asked if we could be moved out of the wind and was told âsorry noâ. When the waitress came back with the new table cloth I asked for a cloth and soapy water to try and save the jacket and asked to speak to the manager again (whoâd not yet arrived)
When the new table cloth went down the waitress said âmaybe this time keep ahold of your glasses.â - We were there for an expensive 3 course meal as well as wine tasting so Iâm not sure how I can hold a knife, fork and keep a hold of a glass. I explained I was fearful of the food and wine getting blown over us in the wind and the waitress shrugged her shoulders and said try and do your best
The manager finally arrived and his first words were âSo Iâve been summonedâ - no introduction of name/tittle or initial apology
I explained to him the issue and that reservation was booked months in advance - he said that the website states it primarily an outdoor venue. While it does mention/picture out door areas I couldnât see where it says itâs all out side. I spent a fair bit of time researching the venue, l was excited by the chef and the menu options - we chose from the restaurant menu (almost the whole party had 3 course) - and I did assume weâd be inside in a restaurant
We asked what would happen if it was to rain - he paused & said umbrellas
After explaining I was upset and disappointed that my friends had travelled from Sydney for my birthday and spent a lot of money on the meal (pre-paid) and we felt we could not enjoy it/relax for fear of our clothes being covered in wine/food
He eventually had the table picked up & moved to the edge of the building which did offer some shelter from the wind - which I was grateful for.
The food was actually lovely when it arrived. There was a 35 min delay between entree and main. We also waited over 30mins for 2 bottles of sparkling wine ordered at the table (which we then made to pre pay at the bar for when a friend went inside to chase up after asking about it twice) - she went to the bar and started to be served by a waitress when the manager stopped her and said âIâll deal with this ladyâ - we then paid at the till for the wine & still waited another 5mins
When the bubbles arrived the waitress went to pour it into the red wine glasses that we had finished our red wine in. I asked for champagne flutes that didnât have remnants of red wine in
I honestly felt so disappointed and on edge the whole time - I felt bad that my friends had come all the way down from Sydney and paid for an expensive meal to celebrate my 30th birthday & that we really couldnât enjoy it. It almost ruined my day
The whole table debacle late for our afternoon tour stops which meant that our desserts had to be served as we were finishing our mains A really poor attitude from the manager. Not once did he come over and check in after he was âsummonedâ...
Read moreVIP High Tea in a Teacup! Cannot recommend highly enough! It is weather dependent but we were lucky to enjoy the golden hour with the sunset. The service is outstanding, so if you're forced indoors you will be well looked after. We were welcomed with great enthusiasm, run through the tea options (a great selection you won't find anywhere else -that you can take home too!) and shown to our table and teacup. A glass of bubbles followed by a pot of tea, a plate of finger sandwiches (beetroot and fennel highly recommended!), scones (with the best cream, ever! )and a birdcage of delights! All with a wonderful view of the vineyard and Cambewarra mountain. It was very busy but nothing was too much to ask. Our host was happy to take photos for guests and answer any questions we had. We were looked after so well and made to feel special. Unique for a winery as Cambewarra Estate is kid and pet friendly. It was great to see the children running around in the grounds enjoying themselves. After the meal take a walk around the vineyard, check out the art gallery and buy yourself some goodies to take home! Also open for wine tastings, functions, as a restaurant, wedding venue and holiday accommodation. Took my mother and mother in law for Mother's Day and we'll be back soon! Thank you for an...
Read moreWe took a trip to Barranca for a dose of soul searching....and we really also wanted to cuddle a horse!!! We decided to take the scenic route home to stop in for a belated bday high tea experience...in a giant pink tea cup ofcourse!! The whole experience was delightful!! We arrived early on a really hot day. We were offered an ice cold glass of water while we toured the beautiful property. We meandered through the vineyard, spied the cute little boat house on the property, and had a look through the gorgeous art gallery showcasing stunning local talent. Two year old Daisy showed us around the gallery and fluttered around us while we had high tea. The gorgeous tunes playing in the background whisked us off to a faraway French farm house! The host Nicole and her husband were sooooo warm and welcoming and the high tea spread included delicious morsels that were obviously prepared with love. The tea we selected was so flavoursome and their quirky names perfectly suited them; "Cinderella's slipper" and "Little mermaid!" The experience that is offered here is organic and eccentric and we truly loved every second of it!! Thank you so much for making our...
