Booked through bookings.com About $90 per night. No tv in the bedroom. A small cold water basin and fan. They do have a unisex bathroom but also thankfully a ladies bathroom next to the kitchen which was really clean. Currently (March '22) they have construction men staying in the hotel, they are very noisy and the walls don't shut any sound out. From talking on the phone to families at 2am in the morning to using the unisex bathroom to clean out their throats and nasal passages in the shower to hearing their loo habits. I would suggest calling and finding out if the tradies are still living there before booking. I will say that the bar and bar food was outstanding. The striploin steaks were amazing again, same as the year before. The ladies at the bar are just great. They had a pack of cards at the table while we waited for our meal, which didn't take long at all. There are no mozzie or flyscreens so that was a bit of a problem. I'd say it would be great if only they ensured the tradies showed more consideration for the visiting guests. Will definitely eat here next year for the annual Portland Art Show, but will probably stay in the Wallarawang hotel (not eat) as that was really good even with a share bathroom. Bernadette at Portland hotel was really kind, friendly...
Read moreSo this was my 1st visit to Portland and isn’t it a quaint and interesting town.
We went to the Foundry Twilight markets which were super busy and it was nice seeing people out and small business doing well.
After that we went for a wander around the little town and stumbled across the Coronation Hotel and decided to have dinner there. The place was interesting and full of charm. The beer garden was quaint and well set out, even had some old fashioned games for people/kids to play.
We were greeted with big smiles and friendly faces, which was nice.
The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, now me being a wine guy I was more interested in the wine list.
It was small and consisted of all local brands, which is amazing and they all were reasonably priced.
The publican Erika took the time to chat to us about the pub, the food and the wine list, she is a delightful person and her staff were super friendly band helpful too.
I’m certainly looking forward to going back and having a long lunch there again very soon.
Thank you to Erika and her amazing team for looking after...
Read moreBest country pub I have been to in years. I went to Portland photograph some of the heritage buildings and the repainted advertising signage and get some drone footage of the silos. That was great, but I was expecting that. What was surprised me was seeing the pub open as last time I cam through it was closed. The new owner (Erica?) told me that she and her partner have just taken it on and I for one couldn't be happier. Firstly, I am a man that likes a pub feed. The schnitzel here was big! Big and delicious! The chips and gravy were tip-top also. Another thing that was really important to me is that they take gluten-free seriously. My patner is coeliac and this is a pretty big issue for us. A lot of places claiming have gluten free dishes just have no idea and it can be a big problem, especially in the country and small towns. No problems at the coronation though! This is a place that actually gets it and takes proper care with there preparation. I am already planning another trip through in a couple of weeks- we might even stay...
