Hallidays Point Tavern — Restaurant in New South Wales

What a bitterly disappointing experience. We were excited to come here as the food sounded good and it’s got a playground for the kids (given we have 3 kids under 6 a kids space was absolutely necessary for us when eating out).

The food was good but unfortunately where the playground was located was right next to the gaming room and we were inundated with cigarette smoke the whole time. It was horrible trying to eat my meal while breathing in the smoke and worrying about my kids breathing it in.

I’m guessing the tavern has scooted the smoke-free dining laws and the smoke-free environment act 2000 by creating some sort of room that might pass as an outdoor room (lots of vents in the sides all pointing down or straight out towards the playground and outdoor dining, not upwards or the rain would come into the room). They have then placed this room directly next to the playground and outdoor dining tables. I don’t know how they legally got away with it. Either it’s an indoor room (illegal to smoke in) or it’s technically an outdoor space that is within 4 meters of outdoor dining and within 10 meters of a playground.

Either way, they’ve designed these vents to vent the smoke directly out of the gaming room and straight onto the playground. Whether it somehow passes the laws or not it’s terrible to design it to send their smoke away from them and onto the kids.

If you don’t want your kids inhaling cigarette smoke don’t go here.

We went today for the first time here on holidays and most definitely will be the last. We had to pay $3 extra for sauce for each meal, including gravy’s, aoli and tomato and bbq sauce. We got a kids fish and chips$12 + the extra $3 for sauce. $12 for a kids meal in the Hunter that would include a free drink aswell as an ice cream and even a little kids activity book (ALL INCLUDED IN A KIDS MEAL) We got just over a dozen chips and 2 fish pieces the size of chips. (Very small.)

When we said something to the kitchen they laughed and didn’t take what we were talking about seriously.

We ordered 1 kids meal and 4 other meals. We waited close to 40mins after our kids meals to receive our meals which is ridiculous

When we went back to get our other meals the chef was very arrogant and saying stuff under his breath while looking at us which was very rude

My partner has food poisoning from the chicken parmi that he ordered hasn’t left the toilet since we got back to the caravan park(thanks🙄)

The menus were absolutely filthy and so much disgusting residue stuff on them

The high chairs also were not clean (didn’t get a photo bc didn’t think too)

Our “salad” is just crap Ton of green grass shoved into a small cup/bowl and on top is just carrot 3 bits of onion & 2 tomatoes with a little dressing definitely wasn’t expecting that as a “salad”

Over all horrible experience such a shame definitely first and last time coming back the behaviour from the kitchen staff was disappointing, disrespectful, unprofessional...

Not my first visit here. Always find tavern staff and food pleasant. Today was met with one of the rudest hospitality staff in my decades of dining. A woman (approx 35 - 40yrs old) with ponytail, and large upper arm tattoo taking orders for the kitchen. She was being obstinant to the customer ahead of me, so I was expecting the same service. She didn't disappoint 😞 She made it extremely clear that there was NO variance to menu items and that perhaps I should read the menu more closely. My question was whether I could replace salad for vegetables on my meal, as i request at times in other venues without issue. This seemed like the most difficult request of her day. She said I could order a side meal of veges as well as the chips and salad. Apparently everything is "costed" Meh! It's bad enough to pay extra for sauce, but that's a venue's prerogative. It was just the way she handled it with unnecessary attitude. We won't be back. There are too many other great places to eat in...
