We tried a couple of things from Katers Nook Bar menu, while staying at Peppers. That was the only menu available on the day for room service.
Unfortunately, it was the worst steak sandwich and steak we’ve ever ordered. The sandwich was just terrible, not edible. The thin slice of steak was so chowy and could barely bite through it. The bread (toast) was over-toasted and hard as a rock. The steak, which we asked for medium-rare, came well done instead. Overall, terrible.
The one thing that was nice was the fries. The fries were great.
The challenge is that we’re in the middle of nowhere here and didn’t want to have to head out for every meal… so we called reception and asked if maybe that day there was a different chef than the usual. However, they confirmed that day they had their head chef on duty, along with three other chefs.
They were nice and offered a free dessert with our next order if we gave it another chance. While it was a nice offer, the right thing to do was to redo the meal for free, instead of asking us to take the same risk again.
We’re still at the hotel, so might have to give it another chance… tired of driving out for every...
Read moreI went to Katers for dinner with my boyfriend recently. The location and setting of the restaurant is stunning and the staff were very friendly. My boyfriend ordered the lamb and I ordered the steak. We also ordered a side of the truffle chips. Unfortunately we realised after the dishes arrived that things were missing. For example, my boyfriend's lamb was meant to come with labneh. We asked a waiter for this and he brought it over on the side but we shouldn't have had to ask given that was what the menu said the dish came with, and also given the price of the dish. The truffle chips were chips with grated parmesan on top and had no truffle in them at all. My steak dish was meant to come with charred onion however it came with beans instead. Overall, whilst not the end of the world, you do expect the dishes will be right when you come to a fine dining restaurant. Our food experience was mediocre at best, although the staff were very friendly and attentive. The wine list was ordinary and didnt seem to take advantage of the...
Read moreI hate to leave this review as the rest of our stay at the manor was perfect. The room is so nice and a great setting but the food was below average-to-average.
My partner sent her meal back half way through as the pastry was stale and could not be cut through, and the rest of the meal was nothing to rave about or salvage our time. We skipped desert and had a chocolate bar in our room. We noticed several meals returning to the kitchen half eaten and the table next to us mentioned "the ravioli was something you get at Cole's." I feel sorry for the house staff that had to deal with mass of disappointed people.
I'm glad the restaurant is a seperate review to the manor as I would hate to tarnish it.
Will return to the manor, but will not...
