My brother and I spotted this place while out driving , so we decided to stop and buy some oysters, as they had 'Oysters for sale' sign outside. We purchased 3 dozen, @ 13 dollars a dozen. We were a little surprised that they were selling them as the there had been a lot of rain in the previous month, but we thought if they are selling them they must be ok. Our suspicions were confirmed when we opened the oysters , as there was almost nothing inside. A bit disappointed we decided to take them back the next day.. When we got there and explained the situation, we were met with a response that was neither apologetic or interested. To sum it up basically what we were told was ' yes that's right there had been too much rain and had affected the oysters, but were still selling them anyway. So tough luck.' The fact that we'd parted with 40 dollars for nothing, plus money for fuel to return the oysters, just didn't seem to register. However we stood our ground and they reluctantly returned the money. No apology.. Bad place , bad attitude. Not...
Read moreMy husband and I bought fish (snapper supposedly) and chips for two at this shop today. It was without a doubt the worst fish we have ever had in our entire life. Apart from the fact that the batter was practically burnt on the outside and raw on the inside, the fish didn’t taste like fish and the texture was odd. There is no way on this earth you will ever convince us that it was Snapper. It was totally inedible and I am hesitant to even feed it to my cats. Really disappointing and a total waste of money. The only positive about the experience was the young man at the counter was really friendly and tried to be helpful. We won’t be back! Edited to add owner advised it was Snapper from QLD. So the advertising on the website which clearly states at time of purchase “Fresh local fish” is false. Had we known it was not “fresh local fish” as advertised, we would not have purchased. Misleading advertising!...
Read moreDisappointing first experience at Stone's. We struggle to find fresh fish where we live so were excited to see Stones on our drive in to Harrington and vowed to go back for fish & chips. Pulled up today and it was already busy at 11.30am, so seemed promising. We had to order takeaway as unfortunately no dogs allowed, despite a large outdoor dining area. Sadly, the food was not what you wojld expect. The chips were not cooked through, the potato scallops pale and soggy. The fish I barely ate, we ordered flathead but it wasn't sweet and delicious like fresh flathead should be, it had a strong fishy taste. It was cooked well, unlike the other items, but overall very disappointing, particularly for somewhere that specialises in fish and chips. Wish we had gone back to the Coopernook hotel again, for the same price you can get a...
