Sutton Forrest Inn is a glaring omission on the Southern Highlands tour map. Perhaps the locals prefer it that way. Retaining a loved country venue to themselves, away from the pesky day tripper's and mini breaker's. Well too bad! To all the day tripper's weekender's and minibreaker's come immediately if not sooner! Luke is the new owner and publican who planned for a 4 week closedown to respectfully refresh his hotel but copped the 3.5 months because of the present situation.
Luke with the assistance of his great and welcoming staff have delivered trumps, along with Simon and crew in the kitchen who should find immediate success on the food trail. Gastro pub recognition for their relaxed yet fine dining experience.
Every main course served was elegantly presented with respect to the quality local produce before us. Balanced, honest and divinely delicious.
My lemon curd Eskimo pie was a stand out delight as was my eye fillet, done perfectly with fresh vegetables and jus.
Its been a decade since we'd stayed in the Highlands but thanks to Sutton Forrest Inn, Luke, family, Simon and team in the kitchen, we'll make it seasonal.
And every seasonal visit will include Sutton Forrest Inn and a meal in this gem of a bisto.

Read moreCharming & relaxed 1930’s country pub, features large dining room & expansive beer garden adjoining lush green paddocks complete with contently grazing cattle. Unpretentious, hearty menu has something for everyone. Angus beef burger features plump, juicy patty with hint of smokiness from char-grill complimented by pickled beetroot, lettuce, tomato, onion on a cloud soft brioche bun, promptly served with a geneous side of piping hot chips. (You have to love a kitchen that provide an actual sauce bottle !) Caesar salad a feast for the eyes as well as the belly, golden egg yolks, lashings of ripe grated Parmesan, delightfully balances tangy creamy dressing, crispy salty bacon pieces & delicate hint of anchovies. Small team of friendly & engaging staff effortlessly glide between waiting tables & bar service almost in time with chilled R&B Soul subtlety piped through the room. While an icy cold tapped beer was very bloody tempting couldnt beat a traditional pub lemon squash over ice on a 30’+ summers day. An absolute oasis; great experience all...
Read moreThe Sutton pub offers a cozy atmosphere typical of a country establishment, but unfortunately, it falls short in hospitality. While the warm decor and comfortable seating invite patrons to settle in, the staff's demeanor is surprisingly stiff and unfriendly. Given its location on the main highway, one might expect a more welcoming approach, especially from a pub catering to travelers and locals alike.
The food was decent, though nothing particularly remarkable; it met basic expectations but lacked any standout qualities. Overall, the service was straightforward but uninspired, making the dining experience feel rather rigid. For a country pub, a friendlier environment would enhance the charm and draw in more customers. If you’re looking for warmth alongside your pint, you might need to...
