Sensational! There’s so much to like about this pub. First, the colour red! It drew me right in. Seating options are snug indoor dining or try the massive outside verandah with spectacular views. The bar staff welcome you (rather than some places where they glare and go back to their phones) and there’s a nice country pub vibe, even though you’re not far from Newcastle. But it was the meals that were a lovely surprise for a town that has little more than a pub, a petrol station, a community hall and a caravan park. So good, in fact, I saw the chef to congratulate her. The team not only catered for a 70th birthday celebration in the back room, they pumped out the best lamb cutlets and pork belly with crackling, and with fair pricing and good serves. From what I could see, the entire outdoor area including the front verandah by the main entrance is all a designated smoking area. Hardly a “tourist” Hotel that welcomes all travellers. Before you all jump on me for being “One of those people that have to take their dog everywhere” I’m a female solo traveler, so my dog is both company and security. Disappointed I was told I could only eat at one table in the whole establishment.
