West Kempsey Hotel — Restaurant in New South Wales

The hotel has just been refurbished in the dining room & outside dining area. Very comfortable and clean. New bar area for diners, besides the front bar still for regulars and serving front verandah. The menu has a lot more choices and hard to pick what to have as so many tasty sounding choices. Chose the crispy skinned grilled Barramundi with garlic mash, asparagus & spinach. Lovely presented and the most succulent fish I've had in a long time. My friend had the Moroccan spiced 4x lamb rack with chats, veg & red wine jus. Again presented beautifully and tasted absolutely delicious. I'll be going back to try their Mexican choices in tacos and fajitas and more. Besides the other delicious sounding meals. Their bottleshop has been refurbished and extended too. On top of all that, the staff and service was wonderful and done with helpful assistance and a smile. My partner and I were visiting from Sydney to my sister who lives in the country 45 mins west of Kempsey. We were looking for a place to have a meal out on Saturday nite. We decided to go to this establishment and I called and booked a table for 7pm. On arrival we could see there were 2 large groups (one was massive and took the whole outside area) celebrating in the restaurant, on placing our orders we were told there would be a 1 & 1/2 hour wait for food. We walked out and had to find somewhere else at 7:30pm in kempsey (not easy). Whilst I’m not cranky at the restaurant being busy, they would have known when I booked the table that the 2 large parties being held there would cause a wait. This has become a druggo pub. Walked in for the first time since takeover as I was unfortunately roped into going there and said hello to the elderly blonde female running the bar and just met with a constant glare toward myself and partner as if we stole her meth pipe and Was very rude toward us. Forget bad service, this place has Very aggressive and threatening staff and has no RSA. Go to the rsl, bowling club, heights instead or even port, just not there. This pub had been the venue of choice for my family and friends for more than 30 years and did security there myself on big events because nobody else wanted to work it, I knew it would go bad but wanted to give it a chance. Will never go back for work or to waste money especially after that...
