Boolaroo Fish and Chips Takeaway — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Having had many years of great food from this lil shop it was with HUGE disappointment that I ordered here today. After me being away travelling for nearly a year I discovered 'new management' had taken over. Give em a go I reconed. Never again..Home made advertised chips were small cut n sooo soggy n matted together they were virtually inedible..as well as cold. The scallop potato tasteless and batter fatty.. BUT, after mixing up my order, the man in charge ordered a hamburger cooked for me. Bun not cooked but WORST, thrown together so fast, the thin tasteless meat pattie was RAW. Thow away was the only answer. Now I know school hols can be busy but if staff concentrated on their jobs, instead of chatting incessantly with customers, and delivery drivers, and chatting up customers MAYBE this review would only include the crap food..1 star given as there is no option...

After reading some reviews, and having searched Australia for a decent chippy, I was hoping this place would have fish & chips as good as England. It turns out they serve the worst chips I have ever had the misfortune of eating, I actually can’t believe a fish & chip takeaway can make them that bad. We were so disappointed and ending up throwing the lot in the bin. They were like concrete, barely edible. The fish was bang average but did manage to eat that. When we asked for cheese on the chips they looked at us like we were aliens and had no idea how to do it. All it takes is putting grated cheese on top of hot chips!!! They did eventually do this but the chips were that bad, the grated cheese just sat unmelted on them. I can only imagine the people giving 5 stars are staff or family. Paul and his staff sure know how to serve Fish & Chips. Not only do they use fresh potatoes rather than frozen chips, their range of burgers are amazing. They are very popular, great prices and very friendly. Even though they are very busy, they make sure their customers leave with fresh, hot food and a smile on their face. You can either ring ahead with your orders or simply drop in. Their buns that they use for their burgers are baked fresh daily. Paul and his staff sure know how to please their customers.
