On the way to Kakadu, I thought I'd stop by Purple Mango, a brewery I've heard of for some time, but hadn't gotten around to making the trip to visit, given it's about an hours drive out of Darwin.

From what I can make of it, it looks to be a house and large shed converted into a small brewery and dining area, with seats outside the shed (brewery) and on the house deck. There's a good selection of beer, with a 'sampling' platter of four glasses, and you can pick from the 6 or so beers brewered onsite. The beers are also bottled and available for takeaway.

Dining wise, they have a large pizza oven outside, with the food prepared in the house kitchen then cooked in the outdoor oven, before being brought to the tables. There's a good selection of pizzas as well.

The beers were all quite enjoyable, the ginger beer is the standout in my opinion. I tried two different pizzas, the Potato and Rosemary, and the Antipasto pizza. The Potato pizza was a bit of a miss, the potatoes were slightly undercooked, never a good thing. The Antipasto pizza was spectacular though, would order again.

I enjoyed the trip, I'd definitely go there again if I were going anywhere nearby ie. another Kakadu trip, but I probably wouldn't take the hour drive just to go there. That said, I think most people I saw there look to have driven out there for the brewery, so maybe...

We loved the experience at the Purple Mango. After dropping in for morning tea - coffee was OK, not great, but the cake was delicious, and we liked the look of the pizza menu so headed back mid arvo to give them a try. We ordered two, the prawn had a great zing to it; and the vego pizza was delicious too. The four of us loved the pizzas so we pushed our luck and ordered another at closing time, no worries, and we soon had the spec pizza - the spec itself was good but the hero of the pizza was the Gorgonzola cheese. Great pizzas. I suppose I should add we loved the crisp thin bases on all the pizzas. Try them- you will enjoy. Don’t forget the drinks! The cocktails were well received- try the mango daiquiri and the mandarin cocktails. The beers will tempt you too- I stayed with the Territory mid strength (skipper) but I noticed that the paddles looked popular. Overall this was a great find a long way from where you’d expect it. 5...

The most perfect place!! Even if you’re not near the purple mango brewery you should make the drive there and stay while doing Kakadu and the east side of Darwin. Kylie and Adam are the perfect hosts. The brewery is amazing the beers divine. Their staff are so happy friendly and can’t do enough for you. It’s paradise to stay on their property. You can have power there too (book in advance) otherwise if you don’t need it unpowered is available. The toilets and showers are new, clean and top class. Nothing nicer than showering under the stars. Thank you kylie and Adam for the chats, recommendations, food (pizza and salad was awesome) not forgetting the beers -oh and the chutney, Chilli sauce, grapefruit marmalade you make too. I told...

Not a fast food joint, don’t expect speed but instead turn up for the quality, the vibe and the friendly staff. We had a mango smoothie and ice coffee, both were great although Adam (owner) said that the Ice chocolate was the real champion. As for the pizza we ordered a ham and cheese for the kids and the mango chicken for the wife and I. Both were fantastic, wood fired with a deliciously crunchy base. The base was one of the nicest I’ve had on any pizza I reckon. The ham was actual chunks of quality ham not the slices stuff you get at Woolies. The mango and chicken pizza was amazing!! So sit back, enjoy the ambience and wait for the pizza to flow. (My wife and I don’t drink alcohol but if you do they have a great range and brew their own as well!)

Booked a night of camping with a couple of friends to celebrate my partners birthday and what a beautiful spot to celebrate! From the minute you walk in you feel more like you are staying and a mates property and not a commercialised camp ground. The owners (Adam and Kylie) are so very accomodating and you can tell they just want their guests to have a good time. The woodfire pizzas were beautiful, and the selection of beers on tap and by the stubby we’re great. They also baked a delicious mango cheesecake for the celebration, absolutely beautiful! A beautiful hidden gem, we will definitely be back!
