Black Ant — Restaurant in Queensland

On route to Rainbow Beach we wanted to find a nice location for a Sunday lunch... & Eumundi just wasn't cutting it. So we randomly looked up on the map what places where nearby & slightly off the beaten track.

We were very thankful we chose this place. Great food, location & incredible staff. The whole experience was an absolute delight.

I would highly recommend making the small diversion to this place when in the area.

The only negative we had was that we were so taken by it, that we instantly recommended it to friends / family... who go to Rainbow to their holiday let. To thank them for letting us use their home, we decided to try & buy a $100 voucher for the restaurant. So they too could enjoy the place when they were next on-route to Rainbow. When we returned to the restaurant, on route to the Gold Coast to try & do this. The woman who appeared to be in charge / proprietor wouldn't sell us a redeemable voucher with more than 6 months validity. And as we had no idea when our family friends would make it back this way we were reluctant to purchase one for anything less than one year. She was though intransigent on this matter & barely turned her back to acknowledge us throughout this brief discussion.

Very disappointing. I had my wedding there in April and although it was amazing, I have been left with a bad taste in my mouth by the owner and management. The lack of communication was appalling, taking up to 4 weeks to reply to my emails in regards to important information about the day. The tab was started so early that is had almost run out by the time we got back to the reception. Despite family members stating it wasn’t to start till we got back, they responded rudely saying they had written instruction from myself. Of which I have no recollection and can not find any emails saying so. There was clearly an issue with the grey water system as the smell of sewage was awful, if you’re going to hold events, at least have the capacity to do so. They also ran out of great northern, rum and wild turkey within an hour. When questioned as to why they didn’t have any more, they said they had a function the night before. Which is hardly an excuse. The following day when we went to collect our decorations, Jodie was unbelievably rude and unkind. The food was fantastic but I would not recommend this place...

I have to say the prices were obscenely high and the portion sizes were very small. Husband’s curry dish was a tiny cup of sauce (with no meat) and a tiny cup of rice. My burger was very small. The chips on the side were just 7 pieces of small potato. Not eating here anymore. $86.00 dollars for lunch (for two) and coffee was outrageous. This is what causes inflation. Locals cannot afford to eat here. Also the service was terrible. We were seated but waited 35 minutes for our order to be taken. This place has gone down hill big time! Never again.

Your response did not address the concerns I put forward. I am also not the only one to give a single star. Other people have experienced bad service and poor food. When a restaurant is good I give it a good review. Rice and potatoes cost you next to nothing to serve yet you complain about your business expenses and cut the portion size.
