We decided to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday at the Bushland Beach Tavern Having an Assistance Dog, I gave them a courtesy call to inform them we would have an assistance dog with us and booked a table, explained its a birthday celebration Owned by the Lily-white group,I would urge their board to take more interest in this investment unless it is an investment strategy to lose revenue. We explained to our very young lad that we have a table booked under my name .He seemed a bit confused, so we let him go back to his roaming the seating area, then the winner of the slackest, throw your weight around woman whose first welcoming words out of her mouth were ," you have to leave you can't have a dog here "! After explaining the legalities of having an Assistance Dog and the fact we had booked and cleared it with management clearly above her pay grade, she apologised.. our night was only going to get worse. Asked her about the cocktails and what is available, her terse reply .."There's a cocktails menu sign at the bar." Front of house service at its worst. The menu selection was limited, so the choices were easy,up to the bar I go for birthday cocktails, i ask ... Where's the cocktail menu? We don't do cocktails here ! Great! purchased a couple of ready mix beverages and am now off to order dinner. Well, guess who is front of house kitchen cashier...the lady with the small shoulders that started this horrid night... gave her our orders....I changed my original choice to a salad, you know when you get that feeling you don't trust the staff with the meal you are going to be eating ? Well, that feeling was loud and clear! Once dinner was ordered, I asked our lady with the smallest shoulders if she could direct me to the cocktail menu ? Stuttering and now knowing they don't do cocktails ,her reply was , "Well, they used to do cocktails, but I am not sure now !" Thanks, winner of the worst service ever, I said, "Thanks to you... all of tonight disaster rests on your shoulders," she had ruined our evening all by herself, our birthday celebrations a total disaster Dinner arrived ,the food looked lack lustre ,the pumkin salad was topped with cooking oil, heavy and no taste, the Caesar salad came with a hard poached egg and lettuce....thank goodness I had ordered a meal our rooster would eat. I dont recommend either of these dishes Gordon the Rooster even turned his beak up at the heavy laden soaked in bad sauce Caesar salad... There is no value for your money, best to take peanuts and contribute to the staffs wages. The entertainment for the evening was an opossum that had a raw sore on its back and tail climbing into the rubbish bin beside our table foraging ,staff walking by commented how cute it was, must have been a local foragers as the opossum mixed with other guests like a local...and where was our front of house lady to evict this 4 legged diner? No where to be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas looking forward to dining here but was very disappointed with the experience today. Firstly we ordered entrees which were garlic bread, cheese and bacon bread & salt pepper calamari. Breads were overdone and hard on the bottom. Calamari was nice not chewy presentation very slack though. Not appealing at all.
Mains consisted of 2 x crumbed steaks with chips & garden salad, 1 x crumbed steak with chips and Caesar salad and 1 x chicken parmigiana with chips and Caesar salad. Upon collecting meals the parmigiana was put through as just a chicken schnitzel so then that meal had to be redone while the other 3 were back at the table. This took a short time and then was bought to our table.
Now my meal was the crumbed steak with chips & Caesar salad. I have attached a photo of what I got. My salad was just all green lettuce except for I think 3 TINY diced up bacon pieces and apparently this is a Caesar salad ššš¤ I Immediately took this back to the counter and the staff member (Bec) did not see a problem with the salad š¤ I asked where are the croutons, egg , bacon & even Parmesan ? Her answer wasā¦. Itās not like the proper Caesar salad , u have to order the main if u want that. Okā¦.. ummm I thought the only difference between a side Caesar salad & main Caesar salad would be portion size? But yeah ok thenā¦.š went to another staff member and she gave me a garden salad and apologised. The garden salad was very basic with ONE quarter piece of tomato 𫤠I also asked her is this what u normally give for a side Caesar (no croutons, Parmesan, egg or bacon) and she said she doesnāt know sheās only just started š my sisterās salad was the same. Iād say there was more bacon on the cheese and bacon bread then our salads. š
There is outdoor and indoor seating. Outdoor scenery is nice but too hot atm. Inside is sad looking and oldish.
Thereās pokies if u wanna play and thereās a public bar away from the bistro.
On a positive note we only went there to try as we won a voucher for $70 through Triple M Townsville. I did order a lemon lime & bitters and that was really good. Donāt think I will be back anytime soon for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had just moved to the area and decided to come down to the tavern for dinner. our experience here was as is-
Seating, there was plenty of seating inside and out. 4ā
The Food, we had a mixture of dishes and all were very lovely and tasty, with large serves for your money. we had one issue and the staff were really great to sort it out fast. there was a bit of a wait for the food but it was not unreasonable considering it was a very busy night. they had a good range of kids meals to choose from which included a paddlepop also the main menu had good range to choose from. We loved seeing what everyone else ordered and the dishes were big. 4.5ā
The Staff, were very helpful and friendly, they were happy to answer questions and help out and all the staff we encountered were polite. 5 ā
Bonuses- āāāāā
ā” Senior meals were huge and for the price they had a deal that included a dessert.
ā” If you missed out on a paddle pop all is good they now have opened a new shack.
ā” The beach shack- whats not to love about the shack it is still part of the tavern where you can get burgers, hotdogs and chips and the best thing is the icecream in a cone or cup which is a great way to end the day off. As its new they are only open at the moment from Friday to Sundays and the prices are reasonable. servings could be a little bit bigger but service is really friendly.
overall its a great place to take the family for a meal out or to get a quick bite if you are at the park or exploring the beach. If you have any concerns or issues with your experience there, by all means dont be afraid to nicely tell the staff and they will sort you out. i am not a staff member but a new local that loves to do fair reviews on places we visit.
