Capricorn Tavern — Restaurant in Queensland

Travelling around Australia means I try many pubs and places to eat. I liked this place so much I went two nights in a row, which effectively means I broke my golden rule about not dining in the same place in a new location twice. As a going out venue for just drinks with friends, the Capricorn would be ok without being stellar, the bar staff are attentive and cheerful, but its simply not a nightclub. Maybe if I had stayed later it would have transformed, but I don't think so. The Capricorn really shines when it comes to meals, however. Having come from Perth I am used to paying high prices for food, but with quality sometimes lacking. The Capricorn, whilst somewhat expensive, makes up for the pain with great food, and great portion sizes. On the first night I had the pork chop, quite frankly, the thickest and juiciest piece of piggy I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, with just the right timing. The sides of chips, while basic, were crispy and a delight, as cooking good chips seems to be a dying art. The second night I had the crispy skin salmon and true to form, the slab of salmon was gigantic, tender and hot throughout without a hint of underdone. The fish simply flaked away, and the bed of sweet mashed potato underneath was light and delicious. All in all this was a great dining experience. While the atmosphere won't suit everybody, I am an avid AFL fan, so watching the footy while enjoying a great meal was very comfortable for me. My compliments...

Went there for a family members 60th was a great night until 9:20pm then we where harassed by a short stumpy and grumpy security lady who had nothing better to do then make the children feel uncomfortable by telling them they can’t sit at tables and caused my autistic daughter to have an emotional breakdown because she sat/lied quietly on a bench seat alone to self regulate, this security lady made 2 teenage girls feel super uncomfortable by following them to the bathroom like why would you do that???? Then as it got closer to 10pm she made us all feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I asked to speak to the manager and was met with a young lady who said she would relay my complaint of harassment from the security guard to the manager while the security lady stared at me with a smug look on her face. The service was pretty slack bit worst of all was our lunch. We ordered 2 rump steaks medium rare which comes with chips and salad and your choice of sauce. I chose my favourite creamy garlic sauce and my partner had mushroom sauce. I have never had anything so disgusting I couldn't eat it. The steak was rare, bleeding, tough and chewy! I have never had a garlic sauce that had no taste of garlic and had a very sweet flavour to it. I had about 4 mouthfuls and felt sickly and couldn't eat it. Partners steak was same andu mushroom sauce didn't taste like mushrooms at all. Was very disappointing and inedible. My partner said something to barstaff who made no effort to even apologize or offer refund or get manage, just dismissed him. No wait staff came to outside dining area the whole time we were there and our plates and another tables were just left collecting flies for over an hour! Very disgusting.
