Have to say incredibly disappointed today, Sunday 25 July 2021. Drove specifically from Ipswich today to go here again (went last year) ... and specifically for the Apple Pie (which was delicious last year) So very disappointed today in many ways: when we arrived the fireplace was not going - it was a freezing day at 10 degrees seated in the corner, under the aircon which we were told was keeping it warm - when other tables were better - we were cold and sat with our jumpers on the whole time - and it wasn't busy when we arrived had the pasta special and the beef Guinness pie - both were at best luke warm - and needed to be heated better and the pie lacked salt and pepper / seasoning etc. This made worse by watching the chefs sitting outside with steaming hot soup and pasta and the steam pouring out of them.
Ordered the apple pie and coffee. Sadly, this was not the same apple pie as last year - very poor - the pie was like eating cake batter and my partner left it uneaten. Also, one scoop of ice cream is too small. Both pies were also basically cold and not heated properly. We advised the young lady when she asked about it and all we were told was "i'll let them know ..." - no-one came back to say or offer anything, which is incredibly disappointing considering comments by owner below and the price you pay.
Sadly, we will not return and were told in Stanthorpe that Suttons has better apple pie - have to try there next time
RESPONSE to owners response below: Firstly, you have had many poor reviews in recent months and never such an elaborate response - hit a nerve? Secondly, your pathetic dig about COVID has no validity as everyone is free to move in Qld, with no transmission, and as you pointed out, people holidaying from everywhere. Thirdly your comments about reviewing footage are false (& disturbing that you look at people in detail) - I was not blowing on any food and was looking at it & commenting that it was cold and looking at the colour of the inside and the pastry. Fourthly, you seated a full table of staff directly beside us having their lunch ... as well as the chefs eating their food outside that was clearly very hot- ours was not. Fifthly, no-one came to ask us how our meal was otherwise we would have commented then. The only chance we had was when the staff member asked if they could take our plates and was the dessert finished with? - to which I replied my partner cannot eat it& gave our reason. The photo is a picture of my pie, not hers, which was not eaten at all and pulled apart - perhaps I should have taken that photo and posted - would that be more to your liking? Sixthly, I put the salt on my Beef pie after taking a bite & realising how lacking in seasoning it was Seventh - what you try to discredit by referencing video footage has no way of knowing what my partner and I were discussing Eight - your chefs were eating their food whilst we were eating our food, and before we had our pie ... as were your staff members at the table behind us, which you conveniently forget to mention. AND the point is, we were on the colderwindow, under the aircon, which gets no direct air ... and my partner & I were cold - the other side of the room away from the window, where the air blows, was much warmer Nine - you comment that you returned within 90 secs which is not possible as my partner had gone to the toilet and when your staff member asked how the food was (the only one who did, the staff removing the lunch plates did not ask anything) and I responded - and as I pointed out, she said " i'll let them know " ... not "did we want anything done about it ..."
We had no complaints of your staff, they were quite good. I provide fair comment and observations on any review - and as I pointed out at the start, we came back as we had a fantastic lunch last year and specifically a great apple pie. THIS OCCASION was NOT THAT ... and your response here further validates why we would never return ... as does the fact you feel the need to respond to everyone it seems - suggestion take the good withthe...
Read moreFood was good, coffee ok, apricot pie was 10 out of 10. Main issue was service from owner. We were a pre booked party of 40 all ordered food and coffee, but owner wouldn't provide jug of water for the table. Can see in other reviews this is some weird back country policy they have. It doesn't take much effort to empty some old wine bottles, stick em in the fridge and provide a basic self service water station. Just kind of contributes to an unwelcoming vibe when owner is money grubbing like that. A real shame because otherwise would've been a nice visit that would recommend.
replying to owners comments below: yes apricot crumble, it was delicious! do more of that and less arguing online/being rude to your customers. definitely met you and the way you've replied confirms it was you! Instead of accusing your customers of lying why not take on board the criticism...increase your prices marginally to accommodate the extra cost of (checks notes)...water!. sure, send me the invoice for your utility bills as you've offered...after being rude to my face, accusing me of lying about meeting you, seeing your water bill is going to flip this whole scenario on it's head and I'm sure I'll be your...
Read moreSituated on the way to Girraween National Park from Stanthorpe, this is a lovely place go stop for some refreshments before or after a hike. They offer a range of savoury and dessert options, as well as a variety of Cafe style beverages.
I had the pleasure of trying their grilled chicken sandwich, applied pie and milkshake options. All were very tasty and fresh, and the drinks were very refreshing, especially after a climb up the rock.
The staff were lovely, and the prices are very reasonable. There are options to sit both indoors and out. I'd definitely return again, and my girlfriend and I are definitely eyeing the cheese platter..
Apart from the food, there is also the option of shopping through the variety of Jamworks jams and chutneys that they self make. My girlfriend and I bought a few for friends, who told us it tasted better than anything they could buy in Brisbane - too bad they didn't share...
