We met up with friends from Mareeba here last Saturday for lunch. The lunch was totally spoilt because of the musician playing his music too loud. We had to shout at each other to be heard. One of our party asked the musician to turn the volume down, which he did for 40 minutes, then the volume went up again. Very few tables were occupied near the musician. Most parties appeared to sit as far away as possible, and what we also noticed was that most tables departed as soon as they had finished eating. We are not against having music playing, but please allow your customers to be able to chat and to enjoy that remarkable setting that you have at Julatten. As usual the food, along with the food and drinks service was excellent.

A hidden gem! I nearly went past, but had a long trip and was thirsty, so ducked in on an impulse. So glad I did. I even stayed for a lovely meal in a delightful setting. Everything very clean and pleasant. An older place, but with a contemporary refurbishment. Management and staff so keen to please. I was shown separate accommodation on site; lovely balinese style looking out over the rainforest. Away from the highway, modern fixtures. Can't wait till I need to stay!

Absolutely love this place…. It has changed for the better under the new ownership and mangement…. A good stopover between Cooktown and Cairns Airport or vice versa!! The servings are large… the ambience, rustic rainforest/mountain views…. A bird watchers paradise. Wedged between the iconic and oldest Daintree Range/Rainforest and the Great Barrier and just outside border of the Douglas Shire and its beachside resorts!!

Great location, nice cabin, private but the good stops there. We had been on the road all day. Stopped at the tavern at 3pm and enquired about rooms. The king room sounded good so we booked. We had a few drinks, a reasonable pub dinner and then we just wanted a hot shower and a bit of tv to relax before bed. THERE IS NO TV! Who rents out a room with no tv?? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ No cards or game boards either. It was 8° c overnight. There was one light cover on the bed. We looked in the cupboard for a spare blanket, but all we found was lots of dust falling out and a broken lamp. Spent the night freezing. Not only that, but the bed was so dusty (obviously no one has stayed for a while) that I had a severe allergic reaction and had to sleep with my mouth open because my nose was so blocked and when I woke up, my eyes were swollen shut. There were no tissues provided. No bin in the bathroom. The lights are no where near the entrance so had to bumble around in the dark looking for switches. Even with the lights on, it was dark. Good luck putting makeup on in the bathroom in the dark in the morning. The lights are useless and the blinds in the windows are broken and don’t roll up. The shower needs to be on hot. Don’t worry about cold water. You won’t need it. I feel that $140 is pretty high for 2 star accommodation. The management lets down what could be a...

Love the location, scenic viewing with an amazing deck. Haven't seen the rooms where you stay, so automatic 4 for location. Have been a couple of times now hoping it would get better. It has not. First time the food was pretty good, with just a lack of service that ruined the experience. Dressing was missed off my salad so went up to the bar to ask for some. Waitress took it from my hands without saying anything, and I stood at the bar for 5 minutes before looking back at my table to see her dump it next to my plate and walking off. Tonight went in for steak night with friends. We all ordered steak, which were all cooked quite well. We also orders Buffalo wings which were tasty. What wasn't tasty was the excuse they called sauce. Blue cheese sauce was more like watered down milk. It was disgusting. Gravy was water with a pinch of gravy powder. How are you serving that? The Creamy mustard sauce was ok, just lacking seasoning, needed more mustard. Garlic Butter was nice. Place wasn't busy and were not asked about our half-eaten meals when plates were half collected. Half than, half 20 minutes later. Work on your sauces, otherwise call it swill, and serve it...

The setting is lovely, and the outdoor veranda area has been beautifully renovated in recent years to take advantage of the views and the passion in North Queensland for eating outside. The food used to be good and we loved the Coral Trout and other things which have now disappeared from the menu. We loved coming here but in the last year the food has not been so edible. A new chef last year put us off completely so we didn’t venture back until 2 weeks ago when our guests wanted to see what it was like. As we had recently met the latest chef and seriously didn’t want him cooking our dinner we all ordered the hamburgers to minimise the risk of being disappointed. The burger was fine but the steak under the burger was like shoe leather and tasted slightly off. So we weren’t happy. We understand there is a new owner now, we can only hope the food improves to its former glory. Please,...
