This is a regular must for locals or a definite place to visit while on holidays in order to relax and take in the surrounding ambiance. Siting on the deck overlooking the beautiful lake with the rainforest backdrop is mesmerising. The food is delicious and fresh, and the staff are very friendly. We visited lunch time and it was very busy, so we waited a while for our order. It also gets chilly on the deck at times, but there is lots of tables inside which is charming and full of character. We loved it! Edit: We have returned many times since our first review and have never been disappointed. Each visit is just as good as the first or even better. We also enjoyed the boat cruise of the lake, a service offered at the tea house and it was fantastic. A relaxing and calming half an hour to add to the delicious brunch. This is ideal for all ages from the very young to the very young at heart. Last time we visited, a tree fell on the power lines near by causing a road closure. Along with others, we were stranded for nearly three hours after closing time. The owners encouraged everyone to make themselves comfortable at the tea house until emergency workers cleared the road, making it safe to use again. We were offered food and cups of tea on the house, along with regular updates on the situation and caring support. The hospitality of the owners and staff is amazingly welcoming and impressive. Truly genuine people running a business over four generations with love and enthusiasm for the little gem that the...

Listen up management Take a close look at your staff. What we experienced today was completely sad and unacceptable. We were in a big hurry to leave cairns on time as we got a recommendation to visit you and try your scones. We got to the tea house around 2.15pm which was 15min before the kitchen would close for the meals. We were handed out the menu and were told to take a seat.... Max. 10 min back we tried to order but could just get what was leftover. This was OK for us but the staff member should definitely told us before we went to have a look at the menu that they are limited in the meals. While I was ordering I asked if I still could get the scones aftet lunch and the Two staff members at that time told me: "no problem. That is availabile until 4pm. ". So after lunch I went to order the scones and they were completely sold out and the staff was not willing to make us any apparently kitchen closes at 3pm.... Great that half an hour earlier I was told by the same guy that it is available until 4pm. We were really dissapointed as we especially came to try the scones.... And the staff was completely careless and communication was bad from the first moment. Please management take care not to let your staff act like this as people drive up 1 hour from Cairns just to try the Scones. Furthermore tables were not cleared for a long time and we had to ask 3 times to get a simple tab water. Looked like a mess around us with uncleared tables....dishes everywhere.... Even the staff told us was a...

After a great deal of hype and recommendation from the reviews online we decided to revisit the Lake Barrine Teahouse 36 years after my parents visited on their honeymoon there. This time we decided to take the boat ride.

We were very excited about the prospect of taking a tour around the lake only to find that half the trip was taken up by small children being given the opportunity to drive the boat while getting a photo taken. In theory this is very cute, in reality we were all left incredibly nauseous and dizzy after what felt like an eternity of doing doughnuts in the middle of the lake and felt trapped unable to leave this unpleasant experience.

We would have enjoyed more meaningful commentary and would have loved more education about the history of the property and the surrounding flora and fauna rather than stopping to feed bread to animals.

When we came back to shore we were delighted to find the original scone recipe still being used and the blueberry and davidson plum jam was delicious. Make sure you get a strawberry milkshake to wash it all down. We loved sitting out on the deck with the incredible view, overlooking the lake...

What a wonderful, serene, calming place. We went there with 8 people, it was a beautiful day,so we sat on the balcony overlooking the crator. I did book as it didn't want us to miss out,as we had driven a hour to get there. My lunch was Smoked Salmon roll ( yummy). Then we had homemade scones with coffee ( another yummy). The girls were friendly and apologise that the oven was out of order, but we still were able to order the things we wanted. There are boards that explain the history of the place, near the toilets. There wasn't a disabled one, but with a little help, it would be possible to use. There are steps to climb to the cafe itself, but there is a eating area down stairs if you can't climb them. When you are finished there is a small boat that will take you on a 45 minute, informative cruise, costing $22.50 pp. You can book on line or buy tickets there. It doesn't cruise every day and only goes 3 times a day, so you need to check that if you want to do it. If you like my reviews please follow us around Australia 🇦🇺.

So much here the could be great, but just isn't quite there. Food was really lovely, flavoursome and well presented. Loved the food, really good effort. What I was a little disappointed with was, it is almost impossible to find a menu. All the blackboards are wiped clean, and there is no idea what is what. Staff are quite confused and easily flustered. When you do find a menu, there is a reasonable choice of lunches. Today's effort was Grilled Mediterranean...and... Pork and Apple Sausage Rolls. I know they sell teas and coffees and cakes here.... But without asking, you have absolutely no idea. There are really lovely tables to sit on the outside deck overlooking the lake (if you can find one that is not covered with plates). And, I would love to see some of the tables whiped down occasionally as well... Doesn't happen... Would be nice with colds.... Flu.... Covid etc. Shame really, last time I was here I loved the place, this time... Not so much. Maybe it was just a bad day.

After over an hours drive up the curvy Gilles range, we arrived and ordered our coffees and meals. Coffees arrived, and my brothers hazelnut latte didn’t arrive with any hazelnut, we brushed it off as it was only $1. Fast forward an HOUR and 10 minutes, and our meals hadn’t arrived. Luckily I asked where our meals were, and they were clueless. Finally got a refund (didn’t want to wait another 15 minutes as we had an over tired toddler with us), but they only refunded the meal amount, and not the transaction amount - which was only about $2 in total, but in all - we had poor coffees, one without the hazelnut that we bought. And then we were slugged a service charge - yet we weren’t ever served our meals. They had lost our meal dockets, and after over an hour, all they gave was a refund (minus the service charge) and a weak “sorry”. Pictured is the eggs on toast. 1 of the 3 meals that arrived. And the $8 hazelnut latte, that didn’t have any hazelnut 😅
