This pub would have to have the best outdoor beer garden with the most amazing setting in Australia. Sitting on their deck, looking at the Little Mulgrave river flowing underneath, surrounded by beautiful green tropical rainforest, is very special. The pub itself is great too and Maddy behind the bar was so nice and helpful. She showed us around and even took us out the back to show us their amazing deck. They are very proud of it and rightly so. Really nice pool table and only $1 a game and a juke box to choose your music for $1 for a couple of songs. Happy hour is from 5pm to 6pm and the Bulmers Cider on tap goes down from $6 a schooner to only $5 for the hour. They also put some credit on the jukebox so you can choose some songs for free and get the happy hour rocking. The jag the joker was up to $1,800 the Friday night we were there. You get a ticket for every drink purchased and the lucky ticket drawn lets you turn over one of the cards on the board and if it is the joker, you take home the money. They draw the lucky ticket at 8pm. They have live music most Sunday afternoon and you can enjoy a nice meal as well. There are a few different camping options if you want to stay near the hotel. There is camping to the left of the hotel for $20 a night but if you prefer free camping, there is a couple of options as well. To the right of the hotel before, the bridge there is some free campsites. Then over the bridge and turn left and there are more campsites on the other side of the Little Mulgrave river. We chose to go down Roos Rd opposite the hotel and about 900m to the Mulgrave river and lots of free campsites there too. The 900m stroll up to the pub is beautiful and we were surprised to see all the hundreds of Cane Toad tadpoles in the water. Each female Cane Toad can lay 3000 eggs and we could see the result. The Mountain View hotel near Gordonvale, North Queensland is a very popular pub for people to visit on weekends and you can see a lot of nice motorbikes and cars there as people stop off on their weekend ride or cruise, for a refreshing ale. The campsite we chose is absolute paradise and cooling off in the Beautiful Crystal clear water was so good. So if you are in the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland, don't miss this beautiful hotel. It is a visit you...
Read moreWe arrived at 4:30 pm for a live music session slated to begin at 6:30 pm. While seated, the waitress placed reserved signs on about four nearby tables, but many remained unreserved, including ours. We ordered food and drinks, continuing until 7:30 pm, when a staff member, Pete, approached us aggressively, insisting we vacate our supposedly reserved table. Despite our explanation that there was no reserved sign when we arrived or placed on our table, Pete dismissed us, suggesting the sign had blown away, despite our witnessing them being placed and not on our table. He adamantly refused to listen, ultimately telling us to leave. Meanwhile, neighboring tables were reserved yet occupied by others, likely due to rain-induced cancellations. We are all individuals working in management in customer service, we were appalled by the disrespect and mishandling of the situation. Despite our anticipation for the new management and music events, this experience has left us unwilling to return. Pete's behavior is unfitting for someone in customer service. Maybe if someone with a shred of customer service savvy had come over, acknowledged their mistake, and politely asked us to relocate to an available table indoors, we would have happily obliged. But no, instead of handling it with a hint of decency, Pete came storming over, all aggressive, demanding we move, and had the audacity to pin the blame on us for their screw-up....
Read moreWe have been regulars for 4 months. There have been occasions where food, service and entertainment have been below average but we continued to support the hotel. On sunday my mum made a complaint to Pete about a staff member behind the bar who was badmouthing her to another staff member in front of myself and other customers. This is after the staff member stuffed up 3 drink orders. He blamed my mother and defended the staff members actions after she lied about what happened. We didn't get the chance to clarify anything with him. His behaviour from then was aggressive and inappropriate. Name-calling and then kicking us out. I'm really disappointed in how Pete has handled this situation I really wanted to see them succeed but seeing how he has no issue treating customers and staff this way, all I can say is I cant see that happening. A simple apology from the staff member would have been sufficient instead he escalated the situation. Happy to support other local pubs we are pretty sure won't be treated in such a manner. Be aware of rude staff...
