Stopped in for lunch at the Rathdowney Pub on the way through and had a mixed experience. The meals were great—good quality and generous portion sizes, definitely value for money. However, the pub seemed quite understaffed, with only one person behind the bar and one handling food service and table clearing. As a result, tables weren’t cleared properly and were left a bit dirty, which took away from the overall atmosphere. On the plus side, it’s a dog-friendly spot, though there were no water bowls available. Thankfully, the bar lady was very helpful and found some plastic bowls for us, which was much appreciated on a hot day. Overall, it was an average visit. The food was solid, but the service and cleanliness could use some improvement. Would consider stopping by again, hoping for a better experience next time.

Had a two night stay here when we came to climb Mr Barney (about a 20min drive to the trail head). There are (I think) 6 rooms available. Ours was very spacious, sleeping four people. The kitchenette was well equipped with a toaster, kettle, small fridge and microwave, cutlery and crockery. The toiletries provided were of good quality and the room was super clean. We ate at the bar both nights but there were also plenty of patrons in the restaurant. The food was of high quality - probably the best chicken schnitzel I’ve ever had (including the ones I had in Europe!). The staff were super friendly and we highly recommend staying here if you are doing any of the long walks/hikes in the region. We will definitely be back!

It took a good hour and a bunch of happy cows having a family reunion before all black Barbie stopped hinting that the mighty VT feels "more dangerous" than Rando. (This info might be way too obscure for a pub review, but hey, I feel it's relevant) Anyways, any bloke will tell you that a tour of the Southern Downs works up a stonkin' hunger, and there is no better solution to that than everyone's favourite pub feed. The chicken parma. The Rathdowney was just down the road, and I'm glad we went. Great atmosphere, full of happy staff and punters, a roaring fire that would even warm the sense of humour of whomever made all the rules at the camp-site, and top notch tucker. Nice pub!

My wife & I went here for a meal last month and can say that we will never go back! My wife sat down near one of the high chairs at the window while I stood at the bar to get us some drinks. There were about 5 locals sitting at the bar and 3 female bar staff, who completely ignored me. All three of them kept looking at me then either served the locals or just pottered about without asking me what I wanted to order. After 14 minutes of me standing there , one of them them eventually came up and took my order. It was obvious that they did not want us to be in the main bar but wanted us to go into another bar where they were serving other people as they came into that area. After a few more drinks of me being served in the other bar, even though we were sitting in the main bar, we decided to order some dinner, BIG MISTAKE! We ordered the eye fillet steak which was as well overcooked and as chewy as a football. All of the veggies were the frozen packet kind and the mashed potato, had obviously been sitting in the fridge for a day or more and been reheated along with the vegetables and the meal was stone cold in some spots and warm in other parts. It was absolutely disgusting and by far the worst pub meal we have had EVER! We always love to go to country pubs but will certainly never give this pub any further trade in the future. It is obvious that this pub does not want any out of town visitors coming in for...

I wouldn’t recommend this pub to anyone. Have been here twice and the first time was fine however the second time was FAR from fine. Firstly, our meals took over two hours and 3 meals were forgotten all together. We were a group of 8 so were initially very patient when the meals were taking a while, however after two hours with no acknowledgment, we were frustrated. The staff then didn’t believe us when we said that the meals hadn’t come out and refused to refund us or give us the food. After arguing back and forward with the owner, they eventually agreed to give us a cash refund. When we told them that we weren’t happy with their handling of the situation and that we would be leaving a review to that effect, they said we were entitled to do anything we like and that they didn’t have facebook anyway. Usually not one to leave really bad reviews but i’m horrified that the establishment is being run this way and something needs to change. Have told my friends in the area...

Feels like mums house.

I think I have left like 2 review in my whole life. Booked a room for the night while I was passing through. Nice room, real clean and tidy in a stunning location, pool like 20m from my door step, beer on tap 30m from my door step. I planned everything accept food thinking something would be open… wrong.. Sunday arvo of cause nothings open idiot. Nearest shop 30 min in the opposite direction. Toni came out to the bar while I was having a beer and looking at a cow across the road thinking “surely no one will notice one missing”? With a note pad and pen and said “you can have anything off the menu accept the mix grill”. Mind you, she’s not even on shift but had taken my booking a couple days prior. What a legend! First thing I ordered was another beer seeing as I didn’t have to drive back to Beaudesert and a steak. Food was awesome, service even better, the girl behind the bar was also a legend, proper old school country style. Really feel...
