UPDATE. 16 March 2025
😔Our thanks to the owner for their prompt response.. with hindsight, the issue of the portion size should have been raised at the time, my mistake and I accept full responsibility for that error. If I had raised the issue I am sure a different outcome would have been achieved. In my defence, I thought I was alone in feeling the portion size was smaller, as my companions did not mention anything till we returned home. Nonetheless I stand corrected and have adjusted the rating accordingly.
Please read on for our main review of this delightful restaurant.
We have been to this restaurant three times now.
✅ Our visits have always been pleasant experiences and the quality of the food, its freshness and authentic taste have impressed us greatly. Our guests have also been impressed with the quality of the food and the level of attentive friendly service. However, this last visit has been a bittersweet one, in so much as the Service and quality of the food was as good as always, the meal was let down by the portion size being somewhat smaller than on the other two occasions. ✅ We love the ambiance and the rustic charm of the place. It is the islands 'Best kept Secret' and bookings are essential, it is that good.
✅ Even given the small issue mentioned, I have still given this restaurant a 5 Star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 rating It is deserving of that.
It must be said that, having spent $208.00 on the third visit, I did have some expectations, based on our previous visits.
✅ Do I recommend this establishment..... absolutely
Will we be returning for a fourth visit..........
Read moreI have never encountered such a surly and unpleasant restaurant owner in all my life. As we walked in he pulled a face and shook his head and hands. After realising that he actually needed to communicate effectively with potential customers, he then just shouted the words "NO" repeatedly. At this point my friend and I had done nothing but enter his restaurant with eager smiles. As we were still quite perplexed by the animosity with which we were met, and were still uncertain as to what he was saying "NO" too, we stood there until he angrily said "no food, no takeaway, nothing. We're full". Even though there was places available had he chose to accommodate us. As Maggie Island is a small place with few restaurants this owner feels he has the right to treat people as he feels and suffer no ramifications. I would implore you to try any other eatery on Maggie Island, as no food is worth supporting a monopoly led by a thoroughly...
Read moreRather disappointed with our food here. We were initially turned away because it was 'busy' but decided the 40min wait was fair due to it being one of the few sit down restaurants open after walking here.
We counted 10 people dining in (not busy by most standards) and few takeouts. Owner was flustered and unwelcoming. Certainly not up for small talk (order-and-get-out type of attitude). Not what we are accustomed to.
Food: Tom Yum soup was bland and the seafood was clearly not local - soft and mushy like most imported seafood. Satay chicken kebabs were sliced way too thin and very dry. Satay sauce was nice. Chilli basil chicken had no basil through it but for a little sweet basil on top - Thai basil nowhere to be seen and no basil flavour. Cost: $54.80
Atmosphere: Tired, dilapidated building with limited indoor seating. Outdoor seating is school-like and yard area is unkempt.
You have few options available here. Overall...
