We stayed overnight at the nearby Capricorn Caves and stopped by the Caves Pub for drinks and to get takeaway for dinner. Chelsea, the friendly barmaid, welcomed us with a couple of nice cold beers, and we decided to have The Caves oysters and garlic bread while we were there, since we’d skipped lunch. The oysters, done kilpatrick style with a unique twist, were fantastic. For takeaway, we ordered the parmigiana and T-bone with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The quality was outstanding! The chicken in the parmi was thick and juicy, the mash tasted homemade, and the vegetables were so fresh, not frozen and tasteless like you often get at pubs. Something happened with a language barrier between the girl that took our dinner order, when I specifically requested entree, and then wait 15 minutes before bringing out the main. It was all bought out together. This has happened to us twice this week. What is wrong with these establishments that offer entrees and mains, but can't space out entrees from mains? You lost stars for that. We played some pool and some tunes on the dukebox. Other than the food mix up it was a good night and really appreciate to be able to stay in the carpark overnight. Read moreStopped there for lunch while I was travelling to FNQ and had the best steak sandwich, the steak had that char grilled flavour and crispness and just melted in your mouth plus the added bonus was the egg waszl cooked just right nive and runny... Pleasant surroundings with a front deck where you could enjoy your meal and beer.
