We stopped in for lunch at The Gillie’s CafĆ© & Bar on a Saturday around 1pm. It’s a great spot for families and larger groups, with a relaxed vibe. Service was decent, though friendliness varied between staff. The eggs Benedict is clearly a crowd favourite, while the pork-loaded fries were a bit underwhelming—bland overall, though the fries themselves were tasty. The salad and black rice bowl was generous in size, fresh, and the chicken was moist and well-cooked. Overall, a solid option for a casual meal in the area.

Loved the mushroom truffle oil breakfast, stunning views and spaciousness. Very friendly staff, a must for lovers of Italian cuisine.

Great cafe, called in by chance on Friday for lunch which was great. Ordered fish and chips, club sandwich and 2 Acia bowls, all was great, infact the Acia bowls were so good we called in again on the sunday morning for Breakfast before heading home. Do yourself a favour and call in when you're in the area,or even go out of your way to get there and enjoy this place.

Ah, Gillies Cafe and Bar, where the ambiance is charming, the staff are friendly, and the food is...well, let’s just say it's an experience you'll never forget.

First up, the Philly Cheese Sandwich. Now, I’m no detective, but I think I’ve uncovered the mystery of the missing steak. Upon arrival, I had to pull out a magnifying glass to find the ā€œsteakā€ that was supposedly the star of the show. It was a scavenger hunt with no happy ending, folks. The cheese was there, the bread was there, but the steak? It must have been on vacation. I’m pretty sure I heard it whisper, ā€œCatch me if you can!ā€

Then came the Steak and Onion Loaded Fries. I’m not sure who was in charge of the toppings, but they clearly had a personal vendetta against steak and onions. It was like they sprinkled a few pieces out of pity, just to make sure they could technically call it "loaded." The fries, on the other hand, were there in abundance, like a sea of starch ready to drown out any hopes of protein. Imagine trying to find a needle in a haystack, except the needle is steak, and the haystack is an Everest of fries.

And let’s not forget the price tag. For the cost of these meals, I was expecting a steak extravaganza. Instead, I got a couple of meat-themed appetizers. I half-expected to find a note saying, ā€œThanks for the donation to the Steak Preservation Fund.ā€

In conclusion, Gillies Cafe and Bar offers a great atmosphere and lovely service, but if you’re on a quest for steak, you might want to bring your own. Or perhaps just enjoy the fries and embrace the potato-heavy experience....

We came here in July 2025, on a Thursday. Plenty of parking, and a big area at the back to let your dog out for a walk. The front of the cafe has a huge long awning to sit under. With a beautiful breeze coming in. They also have a small Deli, a licensed section and the food ordering counter. We had a nice barbecue chicken chunks salad and a frittata with a sweet chilli šŸŒ¶ļø sauce. Capacino and a beautiful big cold chocolate milkshake in a cold metal container. And a beautiful caramel slice. In 10 minutes we were served our drinks and 5 minutes later our food. Could not fault the service. The music playing was soft 80s rock music. Tradies buying burgers, steak sandwiches and other food, polished all their food off in about 10 minutes. That’s a good sign. And when you order a stubby from the bar. They put it in a cooler, that’s service. Best cafe in the Atherton area. And if you’re in Mossman, I recommend Temptations Coffee Lounge. And Mungalli...

Stopped in to get a bite to eat and was rudely asked by a staff member to put a mask on. I explained to her that i have a medical exemption to which she requested that I provide her proof. Under the Disability Discrimination Act and Privacy Act I do not need to provide evidence of my medical status. Furthermore the QLD Health webiste states that people with an exemption do not need to provide a medical certificate. Asking customers to provide proof is in breach of the legislation above and is considered Discrimination! Needless to say i walked out and will never return to this establishment in future. As a delivery driver on multiple platforms i have had no issues with cafes and restaurants regarding my exemption just this establishment. Its about time you learn the law and educate the staff. As a Cairns local i am disgusted by the treatment I received by this...
