Tsuruya Japanese Restaurant Capricorn Coast. YEPPOON Saturday 13th September 2025. Sashimi * Wow so light delicate seafood. Trout King Fish Salmon Tuna belly. All perfectly sliced so they melted away in your mouth. Wofu Steak - Hot Plate Table * Cooked to absolutely perfection. Medium raw. Xo sauce to die for when added to hot plate it’s sizzled into a caramelised deliciousness. The beef so soft tender wow this is good. Didn’t eat the potatoes chips broccoli etc. Steak and rice smothered in XO sauce is the perfect way. I love this it’s so good yummy. Perfect. Black Sesame Ice Cream * Delicious light creamy with nice nutty hints. Nice way to finish. Service needed some work a bit slow and well dismissive.

One of the best Japanese meals I've had outside Japan, which came as a huge surprise considering the remoteness of the location. The dobin mushi, bento and chirashi don were all excellent with a fantastic depth of flavour. Special mention to the karaage and tempura which came with the bento - the batter was perfectly crispy and light. They do close very early (last booking time available is 7pm and we were one of the last customers leaving at 8pm) and are located in a slightly spooky abandoned resort down a dark road. Totally worth it though, just make sure you call ahead first to make sure they are open.

Although dobin Mushi and ice cream are delicious. But I think the other dishes are very common. Although Wafu steak is delicious, it has a strange burning smell when it is put on the stone.🙄 But from the beginning to the end of the meal, we spent a total of 2 hours. I ordered the 80 yuan set meal, but most of the time I was waiting for the next meal, and two single order meals are missing. To be honest, the whole dining experience was really unpleasant.🙄 It took me 40 minutes to drive there, and the first meal experience was really bad.🤷‍♀️

Best restaurant in Yeppoon by far. Great range of delicious authentic japanese cuisine. Friendly experienced staff and great service. Cosy atmosphere for small groups or a romantic night for 2. A bit of a drive out of town but well worth it. Highly recommended. My favourite Yeppoon restaurant. Reservations a must as gets very busy especially on weekends.

Addit: My partner & I have continued to support the Japanese restaurant all through COVID-19 restrictions. However for most of this year 2022 the menu has significantly changed and reduced. Pricing has remained the same. Due to not having a sushi chef. The last two times we have been the menu has reduced even further with one of the courses no longer offering the mixed appetiser (pricing exactly the same), and as recently as 2 nights ago no longer offering choice of wafyu steak in the set course. We have been told it is due to not being able to get a sushi chef but I think this is BS. Apparently sushi chef has to come from Japan (obviously they haven't tried sourcing one from Australia). Very disappointed and now has us questioning whether or not we continue to support...

Dining at this restaurant is a weird experience, since you have to drive past a big sign with "NO TRESPASSING! Trespassors will be prosecuted" on it.

The restaurant itself is very pleasant, with a good Japanese vibe, very large tables and plenty of spaces between tables. But not having any music means that we could easily hear every other table's chat.

The staff is young but efficient and attentive.

The food is good, but not great I'm afraid. With all the positive reviews, I was expecting something more. The fried chicken we had as entree was just fried chicken, nice but not any different from KFC's. The soup was actually just a broth with one prawn, a bite of fish and a bite of chicken, very good and tasty but I would't call it an entree, especially not at that price.

The sushi was the best dish, with the right amount of rice, perfectly seasoned, and generous amount of seafood on it. But for that price I was expecting a little bit more of it, it wasn't scarce but I wouldn't call it generous. Again, when you spend that money you expect something more.

The tempura was just OK, nothing special and certainly not...

Wow, what an experience. We are visitors from Melbourne in Yeppoon for a few weeks. Who would think you could have fabulous Japanese dining at a major tourist resort that has been in mothballs for nearly 10 years. We dined on a Friday night and the restaurant was fully booked. The food and service was great. It was difficult to see the surroundings at night but it was obvious from the fences around the resort that it was deserted. We went back again on a Tuesday lunch with a much smaller number of diners. The food was great again. We especially loved the special chicken dish ( unfortunately didn’t take note of the name). It was weird seeing the vacant resort and surrounds but the main reception/ restaurant area is still reasonably well maintained. We will definitely try and fit in one more meal before we...
