I've been to Pepper and Salt 4 times now and the majority of the time, it's always good. In fact some of the food was just amazing. However in our last visit for family Xmas dinner last year, unfortunately it was quite disappointing ☹️ My first two visits were sometime ago with my family and they're great. I remember the 2nd visit was also for family Xmas dinner which was why I was certain that we would have the same good experience again for the Xmas dinner last year (more details below).
My 3rd visit was a solo lunch by myself. I DEVOURED all the food on this lunch! Everything was just BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS! The marron, the fish, the dessert (the first 3 pics)...OH I WAS IN HEAVEN! 😁 Although it's disappointing I couldn't get a table by the window. Honestly I think they have a weird booking system whereby whoever books a table online first, regardless of what time you are coming, would get the table by the window. So there I was sitting at my table in the middle, while the table in front of me by the window remained empty for 45mins.
My last visit was with my family for the Xmas dinner last year. Some of my relatives hadn't dined here before so we're all excited and I was telling them how good the food were bla bla bla...but alas, that's not what we had at all on that night ☹️ To be fair, it's important to note that if each food (for the entree and main), is judged in and by itself, they're fine, but when combined or eaten one after another, some of them just wasn't enjoyable. For ex: having an entree with a heavy sauce and then the main with heavy curry sauce again just became too heavy. And that's what happened to some of us because unbeknownst to us, we chose an entree and main that had the same kind of heavy sauce which just thickened our palate and made it really heavy. I know you may ask 'So why did you choose both heavy sauce?' Well that's because the menu didn't specifically say that the entree had that sauce! ☹️ We also agree that the entree portion was WAAAAY too big which reduced our tummy space for the main and desserts. I remember most of us were struggling to finish the main, and plus the double heavy sauces down our throat...yeah you get the idea! LOL Had we known the entree was that big, we would have chosen two courses instead of three (and saved some mulla 😁 cos let's face it, it's not cheap to eat here). Needless to say the best part for all of us was the desserts!!! Nice and refreshing. The kids stir-fried noodles and fish and chips were good. Nothing extraordinary but good.
Service wise...it's good. Everyone was being polite and professional, as you expect from a restaurant of this calibre. The chef/owner makes it a thing to walk to each and all tables personally and talks to his diners...which is great, it's all part of customer service, but he didn't come to our table on that night which was just as fine for us. It's also good to point out that towards the end of the night, we're rushed into finishing up. We didn't really blame the restaurant because we were also late, but still inevitably, it affected our overall experience.
Unfortunately my relatives who came here to dine for the first time didn't enjoy their food at all and said it would be their first and last time. For me though...it's a bit hard to blacklist this place just because of one bad experience. So hopefully this was just a once off. I'm still open to coming back, but maybe not...
Read moreWe had our wedding at Pepper and Salt, and it was nothing short of perfect. From the very beginning, the coordination and communication leading up to the day were absolutely seamless. The team made everything feel easy and stress-free, and we always felt like we were in the best hands. Thank you Leticia!
On the day itself, the service was exceptional — warm, attentive, and full of genuine care. And the food... wow. Every dish was beyond delicious — our guests are still talking about it and stating "best food I have ever had at a wedding"! It was the kind of food that makes you pause mid-bite and just smile. Truly unforgettable. Thank you Silas!
What made it all even more special was the personal connection. My grandparents were friends with Silas before they passed, and knowing that added such a meaningful, emotional touch to the whole experience. It felt like they were part of the day in a beautiful way. Silas, I want to thank you so much for adding them into your speech and truly honoring their memory.
We honestly couldn’t be happier. If we could do it all again, we would in a heartbeat — and we wouldn’t change a single thing. Pepper and Salt gave us a wedding that was more than we dreamed of. Thank you for making it so full of love, flavour, and heart.
We will see you next year for our first anniversary! All our love,...
Read moreTheir food was amazing, look at the photos. But i couldn’t take photos of the view because i was sat right outside of the kitchen door where no one sits behind me. It’s a little restaurant of square shape that has got nice tall trees view outside of the three sided window. I am giving this place only one star because I felt I was racially discriminated as I was the only asian person and was sat at the furthest table from the window seats even though it was all empty when I arrived. Perhaps they were reserved, but I booked myself in a few weeks in advance too and two window seats were empty. I was looking forward to experiencing this place for so long as I don’t come to Albany too often at all. I am reluctant to leave one star review in general because it would only hurt my feelings but I am leaving this review as I still think they are not good enough. I received an email(automated I guess) from this place to review how they went and I replied how I felt as above, however, there was no reply at all. They don’t care obviously. All the best to you guys, some room to improve, this is all I can do leaving a little negative review in google after 3month of...
