What an awesome little gem – thanks, Tim for the recommendation! Kuti Shack is indeed a quaint little shack, nestled in the dunes of Goolwa Beach. The décor is what you’d expect from a beach shack, light, airy and pleasant. The dining room was pretty much packed when we arrived, and remained so throughout our time there – always a good sign that something is being done right! We thoroughly enjoyed our light dinner – neither of us were particularly hungry, so we decided to share a few entrees and a pasta main. We were off to a great start: Gowgee-wrapped Tiger Prawns, served with an Asian Slaw and a perfectly balanced Nuoc Cham dipping sauce. The prawns had the torso shelled and then wrapped in the gowgee and deep-fried, coming out crispy and very well-seasoned. Next was a delicious, three-bite Prawn Slider – a generous dollop of diced prawn, swimming in a creamy salsa rosa, atop a lightly toasted Brioche and a little tear of butterleaf lettuce. Last entrée to be shared was a Baja Fish Taco with a Mango Chipotle relish: two deep-fried goujons of fish (unidentified to me, but nonetheless delicious) covered with the summery sauce on a warmed, soft and super-soft tortilla. And to finish, our main: South Aussie Blue Swimmer Crab in a piquant passata/chilli sauce over a healthy serve of handmade campanelle, garnished with a scatter of microherbs to make it all look nice and pretty. The dish was near-perfect, with a plentiful array of crab chunks (not just little flakes, lost in the sauce) and a creamy sauce with a perfect presence of chilli that added to the dish without being the dominant note. Good job, chef(s)! And it would be remiss, not to thank the staff: super-friendly, welcoming and attentive without being familiar and disruptive. All of this and a wallet-friendly bill at the end – well played, Kuti Shack!

Kuti Shack is in a beautiful spot in Goolwa where the main attraction is its locally sourced pippies. I buy them regularly from Oceanmade. The lobster brioche rolls were great as an entree, but brioche is way too sweet and overwhelms the subtle flavour of the lobster. I could barely taste the crayfish. We shared a bowl of pipes in chili jam. That was nice- we soaked up the delicious sauce with some sour dough bread. My friend and I shared what I think was deep fried snapper. $50. That was severely overpriced. Standard price is about $35. Its not a big fish. It came with a small mound of rice and some salad. I don’t think I got more than a couple of tablespoons of flesh. It was nice but not worth the money. The biggest disappointment was the prawn and pippie “laksa”. It was not a laksa at all. I was looking forward to a big bowl of steaming Malaysian broth with noodles and all the essential laksa flavours and ingredients. This was more like a curry; the sauce was coconut based, thick, creamy, all in a small shallow bowl with a few bean shoots, a few noodles and the seafood. It was nothing special and it was definitely NOT laksa which makes me wonder where all these amazing chefs that are purported to be? No chef of any real repute would put that last dish on the menu and dare to call it a laksa.

Had lunch here today after walking by a few times. It was great from start to finish. Sat outside on a gorgeous day. Lots of choices on the menu. I settled on the raw kingfish with wave and edamame, the pipi and prawn laksa and a glass of prosecco. The food was excellent, fresh and with great flavours. The kingfish was beautiful chunky bites, set off by the wasabi mayo, microherbs and a dusting of chilli. The laksa was thick and creamy with delicious pipis in the shell, tiger prawns, soft but firm tofu and well cooked noodles.. definitely a delicious lunch. But I have to say the thing that really elevated the experience was the floor staff. They were all so engaged, friendly and on the ball. Not often these days when staff check regularly to see if things are ok, and see if there's anything you need. It was a real delight. Specific call out to Jonno (I think that's his name) and Max? who both looked after me, but they all seemed to operate as a well oiled machine. Thank you and much appreciated.

Flavour Flavour Flavour ! Such an amazing place to have a delicious meal just right next to Goolwa beach. Their Pipi’s are perfectly cooked and the sauce was next level ! My wife loves sea food and she enjoyed everything we ordered from prawns to fish tacos, kingfish sashimi and of course the pipis. Also the kids fish and chips is delicious and perfect for little ones. It is pretty busy restaurant ( ofcourse as they made such great food) so book in advance if you can but we were lucky to walk in and get a table just in time ! We understand it was Easter weekend so it was super busy and we appreciate all the hard work chef and the restaurant staff are putting on and as a customer we are happy to be patient and respect that it must be overwhelming at times but except one staff everyone else was super friendly and doing their best to make your experience special. But that staff was kind of rushing us to order quickly and checking multiple times if we have finished eating which we would have not as food was so delicious 😆 just a little more smile and customer service would have been great ! But overall would highly recommend to go and enjoy the great food this place...
