Unfortunately, a friend who had come from interstate to spend time with me in the Northern Rivers and I, had one of the most disappointing dining experiences, either of us had ever had. We went for lunch today 29th Jun. We were promptly shown to our table and a short time later presented with the menus for us to peruse. We waited at least a good 15 minutes before someone approached us to take our order. My friend requested the Yia Yia Spanokopita, and was told there were no more rolls available. That encompassed the sausage roll I was going to order. I then settled on the Apex Prawns, and so did my friend. Other patrons came in after us. After an almost 40 minute wait for our meal, it was delivered to our table. There were 4 prawns on each of our plates (didn't have a problem with that, as I'd already asked how many prawns we'd get, and was told 4). What was disappointing was that it took almost 40 minutes to cook 8 prawns, and nothing else was on the plate, not lettuce, NOTHING. Two couples had come in after we had placed our order, and I noticed one couple who ordered well after us, had the Spanokopita Rolls, yet we were told they weren't available. Next up was going to pay for the meal. I enquired with staff, how this other person, who had arrived after us, were able to get the Spanokopita Rolls, when we were told that they weren't available, only to be told they must have ordered, before us. I clarified with the staff member that, that wasn't the case. Then when I went to tap my card for payment, I noticed that instead of what we thought would have been a $44.00 total charge for the 8 prawns, we were going to be charged $52.80, when I enquired why, I was told it was the surcharge...I presumed for the debit card, at that point I mentioned it was a pretty high surcharge for using your card. Another staff member came over and explained it was a 10% surcharge for weekend dining!!!! Seriously. I had a look at the menu where I did see mention of that in the fine print on the front page. It didn't matter really whether we paid by card or cash, (which we ended up paying by) that the $52.80 was still the charge. It wasn't until after we paid and I was walking around the gallery, that I did a quick mental check of what a 10% surcharge was on $44.00..$4.40 = $48.40. Even with the 15% surcharge on Public holidays that still only comes out to $50.60. Sorry but I certainly won't be recommending anyone dine there on a weekend, and maybe avoid paying $22.00 pp for 4 prawns. Working in tourism in the Northern Rivers and keen to promote the place, this will be one place I...
Read moreFood is lovely at this place and I'll continue going everytime I visit the gallery.
However the service isn't great. We waited at the please wait here sign for several minutes before someone even said hello to us. One waitress was busy serving tables, the other who I believe was the host was talking to the chef and not keeping an eye on the door.
We ordered some eggs Benny which was amazing and I asked for the chef to be complimented, it was so tasty.
However, we ordered some cakes that only arrived after I asked to check on them. We had very clearly waiting for our next items to arrive and the restaurant was not very busy. The table next to us had their cake orders missed as well and when cakes came out to them only one of the two cakes was correct.
Look its cake, not the end of the world, it was just a bit disappointing is all. I do think that we keep going to this place because its in the gallery and not because its particular...
Read moreWas really looking forward to coming here but wasn’t the experience expected. Beautiful views although only 1 table actually has front on views of mount warning. The other tables do have a nice countryside view still. There are some Indoor tables & some outdoor. Service was decent aside from a bottle of sparkling water was put on our table without asking. We then saw in the menu that was $4pp. We don’t even like sparkling water & $16 for water for 4 people is ridiculous. So told the waitress we didn’t ask for this & can we have some tap water. She obliged. The Cudgen sweet potato roll was absolutely delicious. The coffee also good. The Pork sausage roll had some raw meat in the middle. Upon paying, I thought almost $40 for 2 rolls & 1 coffee seemed a lot so I double checked the order with the waitress who said it was correct. Not sure how this added up but we left feeling...
