The Pickled Wombat — Restaurant in St Albans

The lovely staff re-opened their fryer to make us hot chips when we reached just after they'd closed the kitchen on a Friday night - we had just driven in from the city hoping to catch them in time for dinner and were starving. The chips (normal and sweet potato) were out of this world and saved us.

We ended up stopping here on our way back to the city as well and got a chicken burger, coffee, and scones. Again, everything was magically good. The scones are so light, I couldn't believe it. This place might be a portal to another dimension. The atmosphere is stunning and the food and service top notch. You get the feeling that this place is someone's dream community gathering spot. There's a reading nook, a fireplace, and the ceiling is all doors!

And lastly, shout out to their lovely yellow lab who only spent half our meal staring wistfully at our food.

Absolutely a must. The location is a beautiful ride (or drive) not far from the city but feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. The Pickled Wombat is a great setting with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Staff are friendly, welcoming and food service was quick. The coffee delicious and food scrumptious.
