Cafe Doonan — Restaurant in Sunshine Coast Regional

Have had coffee there many times and is always great and the odd nice salmon bagel. Ambience is great, albeit on a main road. Staff are attentive and friendly. Recently decided to go a burger before Xmas 2023.

Didn't go with the $20 burger and drink deal went for the $23 Cooroy Works Burger might have been $25 with cheese and was disappointed because the patty was on the dry side but good size, the burger condiments were OK.

I have had tastier fish and chip shop burgers with the lot for nearly half the price plus a side of chips and this is where the Doonan Cafe needs to lift its game.

When you serve a lone burger for about $25.00 with no chips on the plate that is a rip-off, plain and simple.

Every pub I have had a burger in around OZ always had chips on the side - burgers so get lonely without their pal the chips.

BTW Gordon Hotel Portland Victoria a couple of years back did the best burger and chips for less than $18.00 - juicy, patty with bacon, beetroot, egg, lettuce, tomato, relish and sauted onion

I mentioned the need to include chips to the staff, they listened but did they convey this to management? Who knows, but will never go the burger again.

Have been going here for over 20 years & different owners but yesterdayI couldn’t believe the lack of service. Including myself only two other people at the counter one who had just paid & myself & partner. The server never looked up to say hello, shuffled things around & then finally took our order for two coffees, a quiche pie, & a slice of plain as it was banana bread. Our coffees arrived first barely hot, followed by the quiche & no seperate plate having stated we were sharing, then after two trips to the counter asking where the banana bread was it arrived toasted, not plain. In the past the three girls behind the counter always gave a cheerful hello, always said, We wont be long, food & coffee always together, never a reason to be other than satisfied. Yesterday, the place may have had eight other people there, so not busy, so no excuse, looking trendy in your smart apron doesn’t replace good old fashioned service which we always got. I visited Cafe Doonan for the first time yesterday, when I met with a friend . The Iced Chai drink I ordered was so good I could have drunk two more. I only gave 4 stars .....at the moment .....because they are undergoing renovations . While , the Cafe is open, which is very unusual in my experience. So, it's noisy and there are tradesmen and tools around . Perhaps a discount to counter this would be a great move by the owner . I cannot fault the service however, the staff were exceptional. Friendly & polite. The food is great and there is a lot more choice than that which is shown on their web page menu. Something for everyone. Plenty of Parking . Wheelchair friendly. Toilets on site . I will definately be back and I look forward to seeing the changing look of the Cafe. NOTE ☕ ...
