Top Cafe oozes potential to be a great eating place, but for our lunch time visit it failed to score as highly as it could. There is a delightful outdoor eating area with a choice of counter or table seating. There is good shade, but also sunny spots that can be selected. Elizabeth Street was busy with tourists, but there was ample, well-spaced seating available at midday. We each ordered the top of the range "Kenilworth Burger" and eagerly awaited its arrival at our table. After our buzzer sounded, the disappointment set in. The burgers were served in paper bags, not on plates. (We clearly hadn't ordered take-away.) No serviettes were provided with the burgers and none were available in the eating area. No cutlery was available either. The first burger fell apart as I lifted it out of the bag to give to my wife, the second disintegrated as I carefully took a bite out of it. Shredded lettuce en-mass and pieces of tomato and beetroot covered the paper it had been wrapped in. A strategically placed toothpick could have minimised the spillage. The burgers were tasty enough, but the consumption experience was not great. There was nothing to clean hands with at the end of the meal. Wet wipes would have come in handy. Service was polite but could have been more welcoming. I do hope that the experience for dine in customers...
Read moreA group of us bought the hamburgers. None of us were happy with the burger. The homemade patty was sloppy and half looked like it wasn’t cooked enough, was also falling out of the bun because it was sloppy. The menu listed that it had lettuce but there was no lettuce, it was just roquette. I hate roquette, if I knew that was in there I would have asked for another option or not got the burger. I ended up throwing out half the burger as I couldn’t deal with the patty or roquette. I only ate the bread roll as it was quite nice bread.
Quite disappointing that they don’t do hot chips. What kind of cafe doesn’t do hot chips. The old top cafe used to do a good old fashioned pack of chips rolled up in paper and it would feed a family/group of people for $5.
Good on the new owners for giving it ago, although I much rather the old top cafe. The burgers were the best and they were also HUGE, but they were so good that you’d still make sure you ate it all. Miss being able to run into town for a burger or hot chips when you’ve got a few mates over an need a snack to...
Read moreEvery now and again you come across a place that serves great food at a cafe price, this is such a place. Came here for breakfast as the place across the road looked a bit snobby and was more expensive than Noosa prices. Very glad I did as my breakfast was VERY good. If you want a flash atmosphere, this is not your place but if you want great food and a cheap price in a relaxed country setting then look no further. Young local couple doing...
