We stayed here for our 5 year anniversary and my only disappointment is that we havenāt been there for every other anniversary prior to now. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. My husband and I are still trying to process the incredible food we indulged in during our 2 night stay. Where to start. First impressions were pretty high when we checked in and were treated to a 2 course lunch. Hands down- the best lamb I have ever, ever had in my life. Served with delicious sides, the bread they make in house and again- best bread on earth- but what really took our breath away was the pumpkin ice cream that followed. Neither me nor my husband like pumpkin- but this ice cream was transformative. We didnāt think the food could get any better but then dinnerā¦.. I canāt even accurately describe the flavours, the textures, the work and art that goes into these meals. 5 courses, every dish more incredible than the last- the wait staff (who are also amazing) run through the dish in great detail- I think the highlight of our dinners was their version of a āvegie parmiā. We loved that everything is sourced locally, the waitress actually pointed out where the ingredients for this dish were sourced from. I donāt remember exactly what was in this dish- kale I believe (something I usually turn my nose up at), and other vegetables, crumbed and topped with some kind of almond crumb, but the tomato foam it was served on- these chefs are MASTER minds! Every single mouthful was pure delight. Breakfast is the only menu you have to choose from- and take my advice. Have. The. Waffles. They make their own honeycomb from their own beehives.. seriously, the waffles are a must. Thatās all Iāll say. I could write a 10 page essay on the food, the service, the whole experience at Amara was subliminal. We made the effort to go up to the kitchen after each meal and praise the chefs, and what a well run kitchen. You can tell every chef there wants to be there and takes a great deal of pride in their work.. honestly, Iām counting down the days until we can go back. Iām worried our dining experiences between now and then will only fall short. Thanks Spicers team, will be telling everyone I know to stay at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad a wonderful meal for my birthday at Amara. The location is amazing with a wonderful view over the plains below. We arrived just before sunset so we could have a pre-dinner drink in the lounge area and enjoy the view and the open fire. The staff Molly and Kertu (not sure if spelt correctly) were very warm and friendly which also added to the experience. Our seven course meal was superb with lots of unusual but amazing flavours and food pairings. I particularly enjoyed some of the plant-based courses, being primarily plant based myself. The standouts for me were the kale, spinach and tomato course, the lamb and beetroot course and the strawberry, coconut and rhubarb dessert. Beetroot and rhubarb are two of my favourite foods. It was such a relaxed evening which will go down as one of my favourite food experiences ever. Nice to have a special meal on a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I went for Christmas lunch and were terribly disappointed. We read the reviews prior to booking and saw the lovely photos. Our Christmas lunch was nothing like the photos. The first few courses were tasteless and nothing special. The main course was a chicken roast and we were given a very small chicken leg, 5 baby potato halves (not an even share for 2 people) and a salad with only lettuce and a dressing, again tasteless. Dessert was cherries soaked in something so awful, I could not eat them, unflavoured sorbet, again not eaten and a thin sliver of meringue. We left hungry and ate when we got home. We eat out often at beautiful restaurants and are very aware of what to expect and this was well below expectations. To add to this, there was absolutely no...
