BEWARE OF FEMALE MANAGER POWER TRIP.. The food and portion sizes at this establishment are consistently excellent, and the staff in general are amazing. It is a great little pub. However, I am compelled to give it a two-star rating due to our recent experience hosting our family Christmas party there (approx. 45 pax including children). In the three years we have held our family Christmas gatherings at this venue, we have never encountered any issues especially around the use of speakers. (Which we have used many times in the past). Unfortunately, this year was different. The security personnel approached us, citing a prohibition on speakers, which we acknowledged and promptly switched off. However, they returned once again, (like we are a bunch of school children, to no fault of theirs) instructing us to remove the speakers from the premises entirely. I approached the female manager (courteously) on duty to request permission to use the speakers at a low volume, as our party centred around games and dancing for the children. The manager responded bluntly, stating that discussions regarding speakers had taken place in the past, implying that we were aware of the regulations. I expressed my surprise, as I had always dealt with Manager Ben in the past, and this was the first time I had encountered this issue. The female manager's demeanour was arrogant and dismissive, which led me to decide that we would not host our Christmas party at this venue ever again. Upon mentioning that we usually deal with manager Ben and that he was always so lovely, the female manager responded, "Oh, that's a completely different issue altogether," which was not what I was expecting, particularly in terms of her reference to her colleague. She requires training in social etiquette and customer service as her current approach is...
Read moreGreat daytime pub for the family. Good playground for the kids. Fully enclosed playground with clear line of sight from the lunch tables, makes it very easy to let the kids run off and play and enjoy themselves without the need of constant supervision. Sometimes have face painter/child entertainer on weekends who supervises games lile coits, potato sack races, ect. Makes balloon animals, swords, flowers. Playground itself is all padded and reasonably simple to cater to kids of multiple ages, rocket, slides, jumping castle, rock climbing wall ect. Food is good solid pub food. It's not gourmet but it is far better than some of the gastro pubs in the West. It's great value for money and has never been disappointing. The selection of beers isn't as extensive as some might like but has enough variety to cover your general cravings. All in all, Crown is a good pub for a tasty beer and satisfying lunch, where the kids can go wild while you wait for food and play after lunch while you kick...
