We had high hopes for Jonah’s as part of our wedding day, but unfortunately the experience left us deeply disappointed.
We had a small family lunch at Jonah’s (around $2,000) before staying overnight in the Peninsula Room on the Honeymoon Package (around $1,800). While the food, wine, and room itself were very good, the way the venue handled our booking details and communication marred what should have been a special day.
The package included a couple’s massage, and I had called ahead to confirm this could be done the day after check-in rather than the day of. On the day of our wedding lunch, staff called us mid-meal insisting the massage was ready, despite the fact we were still being served dessert. When I reminded them of my prior request, I was told it was a “late cancellation” and non-refundable. The next morning, the manager doubled down that the written reservation said 4pm, and because nothing was “in writing” about my phone call, it was my responsibility. In the end, we lost the massage and its cost, and the only “concession” was removing the dinner voucher we would have received and refunding that instead, which felt more like taking something away than making amends.
Most upsetting of all, however, was that staff asked my wife, standing there in her wedding dress, how far along her pregnancy was. She was not pregnant. This was beyond insulting on any day, let alone on our wedding day.
Finally, despite confirming a specific table in advance (and even seeing staff write “Don’t Move” next to our booking), we were seated at the furthest table from the views. A smaller detail, but it speaks to a pattern of poor coordination and disregard for guest requests.
For a venue positioning itself as a luxury experience, I would have expected better communication, accountability, and at the very least, basic empathy. Instead, we were left with multiple errors, no real concessions, and even a deeply personal insult to the bride on her wedding day. It’s a real shame, as we had thought highly of Jonah’s before...
Read moreExtremely disappointed . Went to Jonah’s for a special occasion . Firstly Felt like from the moment we arrived we were rushed from start to finish . The reason I am writing this review is because it has been over 4 months and no one has bothered to call me back or email me regarding what happened . The whole experience of fine dining was ruined by being led to believe we were having the 3 course a al carte menu. Starting with the grilled king prawns followed by 1 order of roast lamb and 1 order of rock lobster. We finished off with desserts: a raspberry semifreddo crumble and pineapple and vanilla crumble. The experience was spoiled by the confusion with the amount being charged. It was a bit awkward and embarrassing when we were led to believe that we were paying for the three course a la carte menu, thinking that the lobster was part of that. That’s the way it was presented to us by the waiter. At no point was it explained to us that it was an extra cost. The waiter led us to believe it was part of the 3 course price . At no point did Johnas take responsibility for the error and we were left paying for a lot more than what we expected . I sent them a email explaining what had happened hoping for some compensation but never heard anything back . Pretty poor from supposedly a 5 star restaurant. Johnas you let us down big time . Later in the week we went to Barney Joey house and the whole experience there was great . We actually told them what had happened and what their outcome would have been in the same situation . Interesting enough it was what we would have expected. Anyway be very wary of imposed upgrade costs . This you would have thought should have been resolved on the day. Again very...
Read moreIt was our first time going to dinner at Jonah's as we were celebrating a birthday. What an experience. It is a shame there is only 5 stars as we would give it 10.
From the moment we walked in, we were promptly greeted by staff who gave us the options for pre dinner drinks in the lounge or if preferred at our table. We chose to be sat at our table.
The view would be spectacular during the day (which we will come back to see) however our table still overlooked the garden which was immaculately presented.
Our wait staff came and introduced themselves and when we were ready walked us through the menu options. We did have some dietary requirements, which were absolutely no issue for both the wait staff and the kitchen to accommodate to our requirements.
We opted for the 3 course a la carte and the matching wines. The presentation of the food was nothing short of spectacular. I would highly recommend also going with the matching wines as that was an experience in itself.
I thought we would just be served the wines with dinner. Oh how wrong I was.
The sommelier told us of the origins of the wine that matched our each chosen dish as well as how it interacted with the various specific ingredients of our dish. The information was provided in an insightful and down to earth manner.
Highly recommend for a special occasion if you are looking for something extraordinary.
Overall it was an amazing experience and we will be sure to return.
Usually I would take photos of the dishes to share however in this case a photo would not do the dishes any justice. You need to experience the flavours and presentation yourself to truly...
