took my 8-year-old and 4-year-old, who is autistic, here for an ice cream as a treat after a walk. The cafe was bustling, busy, and loud. Unfortunately, my 4-year-old became distressed when his anticipated flavour wasnât available and began struggling to regulate. I was absolutely mortified when a womanâeither the owner or an older staff memberâcame out from behind the back of the shop and began reprimanding him for making noise.
When I tried to politely explain the situation (without having to announce his diagnosis to a room full of people), she continued to scold him, telling him he was rude and poorly behaved. She even said he was making others uncomfortable and threatened to ask him to leave if he didnât stop. He didnât understandâbut I could tell he felt embarrassed and overwhelmed by a stranger confronting him so harshly. He eventually went quiet, clearly shaken.
This is the last time Iâll spend a cent in this business.
I donât expect everyone to understand autism or invisible disabilitiesâbut if a parent quietly explains that their child is struggling with regulation, the least you can offer is some compassion. Life is already hard enough.
If compassion is too much to ask, I invite you to walk a day in our shoesâand then tell me how easy it is to get him to simply "behave."
Edit to respond to you Kim: he was having a meltdown. He is not in control. I am not in control. He was not screaming. He is not a âgood boyâ for being quiet. Youâre an awfully rude person who humiliated me and my kids. After I discreetly said to you he has challenges.
Letâs not get too carried away with the sequence of events. The older gentlemen you mentioned whispered to me âdonât worry, kids are kids you are doing a wonderful jobâ as I continued to stand in line and bark orders at my older son for fear of being embarrassed again and not wanting him to miss out on what he had just chosen, so he would ensure my younger son didnât run off after you spoke to him the way you did⊠that older man could see I was embarrassedâŠ
You knelt down next to an autistic boy to tell him off for being loud. He was dysregulated, and you got in his face to tell him he was bad. Heâs not the one who did anything wrong.
You think you have experience but you...
Read moreNever seem to come on their good days. The reviews convinced me come back the second time. First time i came i was upset because i waited 30mins for hot chips. This time itâs a public holiday and no one has there food all tables are empty but full of people. What really put me i a bad mood is the staff.I was waiting at the counter and guy infront of me asked how much longer hes coffee would take. It just so happened heâs coffee was ready as he asked. He was polite and went away. It was my turn and the barista and staff starting swearing about the customer been to impatient. It was very unprofessional! We waited about 30mins for our meals which required minimal effort because they just needed to be toasted. I enjoyed my bagel and my husband ham and cheese croissant wasnt melted. Ice mocha was very grainy because of unmixed cocoa powder. I saw the manager walking around confused and she was sniffing from a runny nose which was gross due to covid. Definitely need improvements on customer service and organisation on who works on each department in the cafe. Iâve worked in cafes before and this has messy organisation and makes alot of...
Read moreMy friend and I decided to drop by to try the lunch. Oh boy, even though the shop was not packed, we waited about half an hour for my burger to arrive. Then, to our greater disappointment, half the burger was burnt! I've never seen a burger served that blackened before, and it wasn't even advertised as Charcoal bread or something. I was wondering if I should just eat it but even the ladies sitting next to us said they wouldn't eat something that blackened and were surprised they served it like that to us. I asked the staff to replace the burger and the chef seemed to hastily replace a bun on top and that was that. The chips was an additional $5 on top of the $17 burnt burger, but the portion was so small I could count the number of chips they gave us in total (about 10 pieces?) An exorbitant price for such a small portion. For our entire time at the table (about 1.5 hours because the food took so long to arrive), we had three dirty cups from the previous customers sitting on our table and my friend and I were not offered water.
Reading the other reviews, seems like burnt burgers are a thing at this cafe. Well. All in all, will...
