My first time here. It was very quiet. Possibly due to the virus and folk staying and eating at home. Just one other table filled. The menu is fine. I chose the Green Eggs, my partner, the Big Mowbray Breakfast. The decor is a little underwhelming inside, where we chose to sit, but the outside area is quite good with a play area for children. We were served within 15 mins. The food was good. No complaints with quantity or freshness. We were given an open dish with salt in it to season our food and the waitress peppered our meals. My concern, especially with the present viral outbreak is; we are all being told to wash our hands, left, right and centre, and we were given an open dish of salt. Whose fingers were in there last? Did they use their knife to extract the salt or their hands? So we requested a fresh dish of unhandled salt. It took approximately 8 mins to come to our table, but finally arrived. I talked to the staff about the health concerns we are all facing presently, and an open salt dish, handed from customer to customer contradicts the explicit necessity of hand washing. Hope this makes sense to others! Whilst we are endeavoring to go about our lives as normally as possible, supporting the local businesses in these times, I do believe the businesses have the responsibility to give customers confidence in their health standards. If we communicate and work together, hopefully businesses and the community will both survive these problematic times. It's definitely a handy cafe, food is good, prices for a decent breakfast are $18-$20. The inside decor could do with a little sprucing up to make this place what it has the...
Read moreWent here for an early Saturday morning breakfast (by early I mean 7.30 AM) with our very gentle labrador. Upon arrival we were very surprised to hear that our dog could not be seated with us on the large outdoor deck unless we sat at one of two rather small tables in the corner at either end. Apparently dogs are allowed on weekdays but not on weekends "due to the children". We eat out with our dog on both weekend mornings every week and have never encountered a cafe that has this policy. Dogs and children mix harmoniously and our dog is happy to receive what sometimes seem like a million cuddles from all the kids!
I appreciate that the cafe is targeted at young families with a playground on-site, however in the hour we were there 4 other dog owners were either turned away or ended up feeling like outcasts yet there were no kids to be seen. I would argue that this is not really meeting the requirements of ALL potential customers.
My only recommendation if the owners feel it is so important to ostracise dog owners is to allocate half the deck to dogs and perhaps the half that is closer to the playground equipment to families with young children. That way they will perhaps have more customers who are happy to return. Dog owners with anti-social dogs do not frequent cafes on the lower north shore. Those who do take their dogs out with them are conscious of others and will only do so if they have a calm, happy and sociable pup.
The food was certainly very very good and we both enjoyed our meals thoroughly. However, we will not be back to a cafe that is simply not at all...
Read moreI've been to Mowbray Eatery a few times now. It's one of my new locals since I came back to Sydney. The coffee is always good. It's the right strength and taste. It would be amazing if they started using Oat milk as a milk alternative but failing that the soy is fine for every now and then. The first time I went I had the scrambled eggs with smashed avo and smoked salmon. It was really tasty and just the right size to be satisfying but not too much (or too little, the Goldilocks of breakfasts!). The eggs were fresh and well cooked and the toast they served was really fancy. It had a few little micro herbs on it and a green herbabcious salsa that was super fresh.
The service is always impeccable and even when they're really busy, they still make you feel welcomed and like you're the most important person in the room. They're friendly and helpful and always happy to accommodate your needs. I couldn't get parking one day so I called up my order and they had it ready for me while I was in my car parked around the corner. Also very knowledgeable with their produce. I once asked for a triple shot coffee and the barista pointed out that with the size of the cup and the addition of the chai it wouldn't be a nice mix. He made it for me his was but also offered me a free shot of espresso if I thought I needed it once I'd tried it. He was right, I didn't need it. It was perfect the way he suggested.
I really like the atmosphere there and the peace and quiet. It's got a nice outlook with green, leafy trees and a great playground for kids if...
