The Heritage House — Restaurant in Sydney

Please note, I have emailed the restaurant directly, regarding concerns, hoping to not post, however more than 2 weeks later, no response has been received. This further adds to our extreme disappointment with our dining experience. We visited Heritage House on Saturday evening, 16th September, 2023, for my mother's 85th birthday. The evening was extremely disappointing and I felt embarrassed that I had chosen this restaurant to celebrate such a special occasion. We did not have table water refilled throughout the evening, other than we asked repeatedly. It appeared to be our responsibility to request drinks, aside from when our order was initially taken when we sat down. Unfinished glasses with wine in them were removed while we had a photo taken, despite making it clear we were not finished by leaving our bags/gifts and discussing dinner with waitstaff. We waited a significant amount of time for our order to be taken for dinner and there was no order with the delivery of meals, with mains being brought out before entrees. Meals for each guest were brought out separately over a 45 minute period and cutlery from entrees was not replaced until after meals had been served, resulting in them going cold in the intervening time. As our cutlery was being replaced, a waitress serving another table, was observed to grab (to our waitress’ horror) cutlery from her tray, requiring our waitress to leave again, to replenish the cutlery. Specific cutlery, such as steak knives, soup spoons, seafood crackers and crab knives needed to be requested and were not provided with the required meals. Drinks, also came at different times, despite all being ordered at the same time. The last drink, in one order, took more than 60 minutes to arrive. Entrees were quite tasty, despite being unable to eat them at the same time. Most main meals appeared to have been sitting for some time and were either cold or had dried out. Pizzas arrived luke warm, with cold toppings. The lamb dish was very disappointing. One pasta dish was cold, while the other warm. I cannot rate the food highly at all. I had contacted about having our own cake. I was ensured that it was not a problem and not informed of cakeage, despite asking. We were then expected to pay $35 for poorly presented cake on a plate, with our leftovers (of which we saw the extra pieces we did not eat) not being returned. If all of this was not enough, to make our evening far from what we hoped for, the toilets had no toilet paper, hand soap or hand towels. For more than 90 minutes we informed various staff, including management of the situation, without it being rectified. DO NOT AND I MEAN NOT waste your time or money on this restaurant. Immediately upon our arrival the “manger” came over to introduce himself, this was the only time he had the presence of a manger as he went missing just like our food.

Throughout our dinning experience we had to stop the wait staff to order and check up on our food and drinks. We ordered at 6:30 and we didn’t receive all party members drinks until 7:20. Our food however arrived at staggered times up until 8:15. One party member finished his dinner whilst the rest hadn’t got any food. It gets worse, one party member only got half of her meal. Throughout we got told “it’s coming, it’s coming”. What a lie this was. When we got our last meal the waitress said “the chef didn’t check the order”. This so called “manger” spent most of the night speaking Italian to other diners to the point he should have pulled up a chair. Considering a third of the restaurant had customers, it wasn’t busy at all (now we know why it was quite). Diners that sat after us got their mains before us.

The food is so over priced, had no flavour and had such small portions. The lamb that cost $56, that was a very generous Italian serving of two pieces with no veggies.

Here comes the best part. After getting a true Italian family dinning experience and feeling so hungry whilst leaving. The chef came out and said “I’ll be honest the food order never printed”. The chef and manger never took any ownership! He then proceeded to mansplain how wifi works and said the restaurant had a wifi issue. It’s amazing how we had issues with the wifi when we ordered but the mangers Italian friends table (that he spent most of his night at) had no issues at all. The chef said he will reduce the cost and said he is being “very generous” and “what do you want, to take the whole bill off”, but he really wants us to dine again.

Overall, if you have a few hours to waste to spend on an overpriced “fine dining” experience and leave starving then this is the restaurant for you.
