Hearing Sydney had a spot offering a regional type of bĂĄnh khá»t had me hightailing it to Vung Tau Street Food in Lansvale. Unlike the cupped soft yellow savoury mini pancakes common in the Mekong Delta, the coastal city of Vung Tau does a version that are flat, pale and crisp. The pancake batter is made of rice powder and coconut milk, and theyâre dusted with shrimp powder, which makes them very effective prawn delivery systems. We took ours as the dac biet (special) bĂĄnh khá»t ($15/8 pieces) with prawn and squid sprinkled with herbs. They eat best wrapped in lettuce with fresh herbs ($3) and dunked into the accompanying lightly spicy Vietnamese dipping sauce (nuoc mam).
This food truckâs lemongrass pork skewers ($10/3) were another revelation: wafer thin they ate more like soft jerky than juicy meat. We dipped ours into a little pot of sambal oelek, which was fruity and super tasty. The friendly, family-run food truck team brought us out the jar so we could photograph it to buy some for home use, and gave us a little pot takeaway. Enjoying their camp-style set-up (though from a wooden bench rather than the precariously tiny plastic stools) we finished on sticky rice banana in coconut cream ($6). Tasty and not over-sweet, this Vietnamese dessert sees green sticky rice wrapped around a sugar banana. The parcels are grilled, unwrapped and assembled with a sauce of tapioca, coconut cream and palm sugar under a dusting of crushed roasted peanuts for extra deliciousness! Canât wait to return and try the rest of their...
Read moreFriendly family run business cool street vibe you sit on low plastic stools watching cars driving past. Banh khot is a must try. They differ from the normal yellow and chunky but looks white flat pancake. Very crispy. The pork skewers is so nice the meat is crunchy and juicy. Nem nuong is ok. A bit pricy compared to other Viet restaurants around Cabramatta but you get what you paid for. I just hope their potion could be a bit bigger. We paid $50 including desserts and we left with 70%...
Read moreId say its a little bit overpriced for the amount of food that we got. Better to go to a restaurant at cabra or canley heights. My partner and I shared the banh kot ($8), bbq combo ($15), 2x nem nuong skewer ($6), 3 beef skewers ($10), peach ice tea ($5) and fried ice cream ($6). Total cost $50 for two people. The banh kot was a must try but we left not feeling full even though we kept ordering along the way. Good street chill out experience though with the locals but i wouldnt need...
