We utilised the Ettamogah Pub as a free camp facility for two nights, and of course wandered the quirky grounds and visited the restraunt whilst in locality.
The Ettamogah Pub itself is in desperate need of some love and a facelift. I understand that the quirkiness of it all is unique, but there are some real dangerous hazards such as railings not attached, holes in walls and built up cobwebs. It really detracts from what a beautiful establishment it once was.
Our lunch order was the T bone special and a Tropical Chicken Parmiagana. When we ordered, I chose a garlic butter sauce from the sauces menu. It was quite literally melted butter over minced garlic. No viscosity what so ever. So definitely not appealing to use as a "sauce". The parmy was quite dry in the crumbing, but the chicken was quite moist.
All up the cost of lunch was $71.00 for the two meals, a sauce add on, a Tooheys New stubby and a schooner of lemon lime bitters. Not the worst value, but definitely had better value in much nicer pubs associated with free camping. There are free toilets for patrons to utilise, and shower tokens available at a cost of $5 per person.
All in all, the location was what was important to us. If we are choosing to free camp in the area again, we probably would choose to pay for a spot that provides water and power opposed to a very...
Read moreThis review is based on off peak experience, so may be totally different on peak as the items set up look promising. Nothing was available or open other than the pub when we went.
Friendly staff, but not a great deal on offer. The place looks great, but going off peak, it was literally just a pub. I thought there would be more to see and do. The toilets were clean good in general, but there was no light inside, so as dark even during the day. The shower room ($5 for 3 mins) was a stall arrangement for 3 people, but was quite smelly with stagnant water on the ground. I didn't use it.
Camp ground was basically an oval repurpsed, so was niceva flat, you could camp anywhere.
Only 2 power outlets if you're quick enough to park near the entrance, but you'll need a long power cord.
A large shed with eatery games, hay bales, jumping castle etc is in place, so maybe it's great during holiday season.
Free stay if you buy a meal (all of which are more than $30), so cost us about $40 per person for the night.
Meals were massive. You could buy 1 for two people. We had fish and chips, and caesar salads. All average in taste.
The cocky enclosure was nice to look at, but without the ability to fly due to the cage dimensions, all they could do was climb with beaks and claws to move around. At least they had that I suppose. I'm not a fan of...
Read moreLook great place. The atmosphere is amazing and thanks very much for the free caravan parking out the back. That is amazing. However I do not share the sentiment of others. The food is overpriced as is just 1 bottle of debortolli wine. $8.00 from Dan Murphy. $28.00 from them. Food was limited, with many items advertised actually off the menu. Steaks where not any where near to standard for the price they charge. Additionally management should have better control of Patrons rather than allow kids to be running around, harassing and in fact asking people for money. It is annoying to other guests that are just there for a quiet night. Look finally, JUST OK. BUT I WOULD NOT WASTE MY TIME A SECOND TIME AROUND.
In response to the owners response. The 3 ladies next to us (not related and not known to us in any way). All left their steaks. Tough, chewy and generally inedible. The gravy was stone cold. The whole meal was questionable. In regards to wines, so another 350% on Dan Murphies is acceptable to you ? I expect to pay, but it should have been like double $16. Not $28. Interestingly today a Wagga Wagga, a box of 6 from Dans for $48. You call your price justified ? That is $48 against your price of $168. That is NOT Justifiable under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. That is just...
